FORMAT:

The Calcutta is a Team Event whereby each team has a multiple lined doubles roster. Rosters are formed in order of strength with line 1 being the strongest pairing, line 2 being the next strongest and so on.

Each line plays against their counter line of all other teams.

After the initial rounds the top 4 teams with the most points won will play in a Semi-Final elimination!

The winners of the Semi-Final round will play in the Final to decide which Team will be crowned Champions!

EVERY POINT COUNTS!

​Teams will be announced with the opportunity to meet and greet your team members and plan for game day!

You will be able to show your support for any Team whether you are participating in the Event or not. You can support multiple teams.

Tournament start time is 11 am - Please show up 20 to 30 minutes prior to the start time to check in and warm up

Your entry fee includes a square in the football pool! Additional squares will be available for purchase for $5. Payout is $125 per quarter (don't need to present to win).

Congratulations to local hero Alex Michelsen on reaching the 3rd Round of the Australian Open.

Alex was a long time member of Nellie Gail and spent many years honing his talents at our beloved Club.

It’s a night match for Alex in Australia which means a likely start time around 2am PST Saturday morning. You can tune in to ESPN to watch the match live 🔥🔥🔥

HOLIDAY PICKLEBALL ROUND ROBIN INFO

- Courts will be available for warm up at 10:00. We have 64 players, so please limit your warm up to 10-15 minutes to allow court time for everyone.

- Please arrive by 10:30 to allow for check-in and warmup.
- Play will begin at 11:00 sharp so we can get through 8 rounds by 2:00 pm.

Rules of Play:
Games will be on a 10 minute timer
First to 11 by 1 point
If you are tied when the whistle blows, the next point wins
If the game doesn't get to 11 points, the match score will be recorded with the winner receiving 11 points and the losing team recieving 11 minus the point differential at the end of the game. (For example - Score ends up 9 to 5 (4 point difference), final score will be 11 - 7)
Individual winners based on most games won, most points won, won vs lost points differential.
Prizes for 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place

Halloween Pickleball Calcutta 2023

Wow! Our members really showed up for the Calcutta Pickleball Event! 🔥🔥🔥

Congratulations to Nellie Gail member Sue Morgan and her partner, Annabel who won the Gold Medal in the 4.5 Women’s Doubles 70’s division at the USA Pickleball Biofreeze National Championships! 🏆

Huge congratulations to .pickleball & .pickleball on winning silver medals in the Women’s Pro Doubles division! 🥈🥈🔥

BIDDING STILL OPEN!

We had a great Friday the 13th Halloween Pickleball team formation and bidding party at the Watering Hole! For those of you who couldn't make it, we wanted to open the bidding to you to become Team Owners.

As you can see below, George Nakamura currently owns 5 of the 8 teams, which means he could win a large portion of the cash pot. There is currently $4,000 in the pot!! ($75 from each player plus the team bidding).

The payouts are the following:
40% for the 1st place team
30% for the 2nd place team
20% for the 3rd place team
10% for the 4th place team
As an owner, a minimum bid of $150 gets you 50% ownership in the team. The players would retain 12.5% each from their original 25% ownership before the ownership buy-in.

Here are the teams and the current ownership.

If you are interested in bidding, please email Jamil Atcha at [email protected]. We will be taking bids at $50 increments. We will be also
giving the current owner the right of last refusal to increase the bid by another $50 to retain ownership of the team.

We will send another email out next week with the final price of each team and the ownership. The bidding will end Monday, October 23rd at 8:00 PM.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you that are playing in the Halloween Calcutta Tournament or those who would like to own the teams this Friday, October 13th from 5 pm to 8 pm.

The cost for the dinner, a drink and dessert is included in your entry fee. If you would like to join us for the party the cost is $25 per person. The party will be catered by our new restaurant group! Please click on the link to RSVP.

We will be doing a blind draw to pick the teams and then the bidding to own teams begins! If you can't play, own a team and participate in the festivities!
