Types of Birds Found in Southwest Louisiana Many types of birds are found here, including waterfowl, neotropical migrants, shoreline birds, wading birds and many more.
Kayaking in Lake Charles | A Guide to Paddling Adventures Southwest Louisiana has no shortage of waterways β shimmering lakes, meandering rivers, mysterious bayous, cypress swamps, and salt grass marshes β and where there is water, there are boats, including kayaks and canoes.
Kudos to the Board of Directors for achieving another successful annual meeting!
The food was delicious, and the beverages were plentiful!
Major thanks to Willie Mount for allowing us to use her awesome lake house yet again. What a perfect setting to relax and catch up.
Congratulations to Ann Miller for being elected to take Drew Miller's place on the Board!
Those who could not attend but want to pay their dues are asked to review the instructions in the email that went out with the meeting notice.
If you have a new email address or a new neighbor to add, email [email protected].
Porch Crawlers took time last night to elect the following new board members: Alexis Allured, Dean Day, Drew Miller, & Mary Reid. Congratulations and thanks for your willingness to serve!
Shout out to the city for giving our fire hydrants a fresh coat of paint! Thanks to Jim Barnatt for taking these pictures.
Beautification Chair Chauntelle LeJeune provided these pics and her thanks to Nathaniel and Nixon Allured, Jim Barnatt, Eddie Bergen, Clay Hebert, and Mary Reid. They planted (well, Mary read the directions!) five Bald Cypress Trees at Perkins Point this morning in an hour. Teamwork and Chauntelle's prayers for their survival prevailed! Thanks again to Cox, Cox, Filo, Camel & Wilson for the beautiful trees, and the MPHD residents who retrieved them.
Three shout-outs from Beautification Chair Chauntelle LeJeune! Jim Lueckenhoff volunteered his time and talent to fix the door on the Perkins Pointe lending library. Ditto Nathaniel Allured as he placed the Duck Crossing signs donated by Joy Pace.
Two shout-outs! One to Cox, Cox, Filo, Camel and Wilson for hosting yet another free tree giveaway! The second to MPHD Beautification Chair Chauntelle LeJeune, Mary Morris & MK Hopkins for pooling their resources to achieve 6 beautiful and healthy bald cypress trees. Chauntelle's organizational and multi-task skills were at work as she advanced the beautification cause during the process!
Who knew our own Judge Tony Fazzio possessed painting skills?! Between Tony and MK, the 2nd coat of paint was completed yesterday on both Columns at DeBakey and Harrison and a portion of the columns on Wilson. Only 6 sides left!
Results! Kudos to Cissy Guidry for so efficiently protecting the 3 plaques!
To celebrate...Mimosa's of course!
The final prep work and the first coat of paint were completed this morning by 11:30, thanks to Jim Barnatt, Ashley Foret, Cisssy Guidry, Jude and Adrienne Hebert, MK Hopkins, Chauntelle LeJeune, and Mary Reid. Bill Shearman took on the street and stop sign clean-up.
Week 3 of the Obelisk, Street Sign, and Column clean-up and paint project produced major progress! Bill Shearman took on the task of cleaning the street and stop sign on the cross streets along Wilson and Harrison and trimmed limbs over the Harrison column. With Clayton Hebert having previously tackled Park Avenue, put a "done" checkmark on this task. Ashley Foret and Chauntelle Lejeune put the 2nd coat of paint on all the obelisks. Another checkmark! Column photos follow.
It was COLD this morning, but Jim Barnatt & MK Hopkins were on a column-cleaning mission. Per MK, "Good thing for me that we were not keeping score!" Jim-four columns. MK-2 sides of one column (Harrison). Thankfully, the projected temps for Saturday, 3/25 are 67-70 degrees.

Turnover! NANCY SHEPHARD DRAUGHNNancy Shephard Draughn grew up at 117 Pithon. Years later, she and husband Paul purchased 101 Pithon on the corner of Wilson and Pithon. The home at 101 Pithon is one of numerous "Landmark" homes in Margaret Place designated by the Calcasieu Historical Preservation Society.
Ducks and their babies on Saturday Morning at Perkins Point in Margaret Place.
Clayton Hebert and Joy Pace were part of today's team. Not pictured are Chauntelle LeJeune and MK Hopkins. Team two will continue on March 18th, and Team 3 on March 25th.
What a difference an hour (and 4 MPHD residents) make! The first of three Saturday teams cleaned and provided the first coat of paint on all nine of our obelisks this morning. These are "Before" and "After" Photos.
Reminder to MPHD Owners and Residents! While the Social part of the Annual Meeting/Social starts at 5:30, the official meeting starts at 6:15 at The Barnatt Home on the corner of Wilson and Griffith. Enter via the addition on Wilson. Be sure to verify your listing in the draft directory.

Help by picking up the litter in your communities this week. It takes us all!
