A message from Bob:

I would like to thank the Lake Geneva Regional News for their fine article on my closing business. Also, much of the fine coverage they have given me through the years. Mucho grande thanks to those supporting my sale. So many taking time from their lives to stop and wish us well and thanking me for making a difference in their community. It’s been quite overwhelming to say the least. Rarely in life does one get to be made aware of the impact in the community regardless how big or small. Also, rarely does one get to live their live’s dream, again, regardless of what that dream may be, with a support of my community, my soulmate wife, and my three beautiful daughters; I have realized these two occurrences. Man, I’m just an old hippie trying to live life on my own terms but damn I’m on a roll. I’ll be in Las Vegas in February to do a tradeshow for my island business. Maybe I’ll put all my chips on red. Introducing one of our featured artists, Arya Paquin is our youngest yet mightiest vocalist hitting the streets by Treasure Cove Saturday and Sunday. Arya’s deep love and passion for music and performing transcends her excellence in learning and leadership. Only 8 years of age, she has been singing and performing since she was 2 - toy guitar and mic always in hand.

Harmony Music School (HMS) in Kenosha was Arya’s first introduction to structured music learning - she was 4. Always an eye for something more, Arya had her heart set on the guitar - even though her little hand was too small to grip the neck. One for persistence, Arya was finally allowed to give the ukulele a try - after asking many times. Since then, Arya takes every opportunity to perform that comes her way.

Arya says even though she gets nervous, as soon as she starts playing, it all goes away and she feels as she says, “...so good.”

She also says she loves to sing and play because “...it brings me joy and it brings other people joy and I think it makes other people know they can do things they think they can’t do….”

Currently, Arya is busy rehearsing for her first musical production, as one of the youngest cast members, in Lakeside Players production of ‘Madagascar Jr. - A Musical Adventure’.

“I grew up surfing on the East Coast off the coast of Rhode Island.

Around the time Peggy and I found out we were going to have our first child, we decided to move from the East Coast to Wisconsin. I didn't want to be away two weeks of every month traveling for work. I left my job as a sales rep for an independent jean store and had a few other jobs along the way. I soon realized that I was pretty unemployable. I was not good with supervisors or authority so, after being fired from 10 or so jobs, I realized I was meant to be self-employed and decided to open my own business.

I started my business, creatively named ‘Bob’s Store,’ in Walworth in 1991. We eventually had stores in Walworth, Whitewater, and Delevan but we were much more conservative. Bob’s Store was not the feel, not the thing, I was looking for in running my own company. I found the abandoned shack in the Delavan Inlet and it clicked that this was what I wanted to do. I wanted to bring a feel of my surfing experiences on the East coast to the Midwest. It was here that ‘Bob’s Beach Shack’ officially opened its doors.

At the time that I opened up Bob’s Beach Shack, the rent Downtown Lake Geneva was a little frightening to me. Once my business prospered in Delavan and I knew I could handle it, I knew Downtown Lake Geneva was where I needed to be. Bob’s Beach Shack officially opened its Lake Geneva doors on St. Patrick’s Day in 2009.

Running a business in Lake Geneva, there are frustrating days and there are good days, but there's always action. I think Lake Geneva is a great city that could always use a little more excitement. I think the Downtown businesses and merchants are making that happen.
