Good Luck to all our racers at Barry-Roubaix!
This is a great thing for our athletes to read.
The key ingredients to success in racing include building endurance, keeping your mental state focused and in check, and developing your skills.
But don’t take it from me—read what the professional has to say 💚🐉
Becoming the best Cross-Country Mountain Bike Racer in the World is all about mastering THREE (not so) basics, in my opinion✨
Sure, there are many other factors like equipment, support, weather, luck, health, and resources that play a role, but let’s not get lost in the details.
#1. The art of sustained power 🏋️🏻
We heard this again in Evie Richards post-race interview today, admitting she doesn’t recall attacking to earn her gap on the final laps of the Short Track like we whiteness. It was her ability to hold the same power Kate Courtney had set the lap prior and not need to back off or recover that others weren’t able to match.
This leads me to #2. In a 20-minute race (or lap), there will be dozens of times we think we are IN CONTROL, yet, split seconds later, we are fighting the need to let up. The Athlete that can hit their mental Flow state and silence their minds will almost always be a main contender. It is the ultimate place to get to, yet challenging to achieve with many variables and distractions.
. This one is more complex than the obvious. Descending/tech skills. It’s less about how much time one gains or will loose because the racers are so similar after the days of practice on track prior. It comes down to your confidence in your ability, which then attributes to three significant things. 1. Equipment preservation and 2. Ability to stay relaxed and use less energy while attacking these intimidating sections and 3. Timing of tactics.
Bottom line: the key ingredients to your success are within your grasp. Sending energy to everyone racing this weekend at the World Cup opener in 🙌✨🔥
