Whether it’s through facebook/IG posts, cards, or texts I receive… my heart just bubbles up with so much joy when I see them! Sometimes even an occasional tear 🥲 as these babies all grow so dang FAST! I will never tire of seeing them 💕

Great info from a fellow LC! 🫶🏼🍼

Human milk is so precious, invaluable (tho averages about $6/ounce), and rarely ever becomes dangerous or unsafe and need be discarded.

If someone has told you to pump and dump your milk, call your Lactation Consultant, reference Medications and Mother’s Milk, LactMed, or your local La Leche League Leader. It is HIGHLY unlikely that dumping your milk is necessary.

✔️ Most medications are safe to take while breastfeeding and pumping. Watch my YouTube video here https://youtu.be/df-BUWxtg_Y?si=J-Vpnn1AweAcTdEO

✔️ Ni****ne is not contraindicated. Actually it is safer for baby to breastfeed from a smoking mother than formula feed from a smoking mother. Even have a YouTube video on this one. https://youtu.be/GA8YS2yick8?si=FKxjoBoctuFVyAVh

✔️ Alcohol is considered compatible while breastfeeding and pumping. I explain this one in a YouTube video of mine. “Don’t Pump and Dump” linked here https://youtu.be/OgmdvJ8hr80?si=udN6SjBNltdoxh6W

✔️Surgeries and procedures (even dental) most often do not require any interruption of breastfeeding or pumping. Common sense here folks. Moms can have a surgical birth and have anesthesia and they breastfeed immediately afterwards. And these women are taking their prescribed pain medications while recovering.

Human milk and the benefits to baby are so powerful that it is so rare for their benefits to be outweighed.

As we enter cold/flu/RSV season… here is a great visual of the power of breastmilk 💪🏻🤱🏻

A photo showing droplets of breast milk fending off armies of harmful bacteria in Petri dishes is going viral on Facebook.⁣

The photo, posted by a biology student in England, features nine Petri dishes completely colonized with the bacteria M. Luteus, except in the center, where tiny puddles of breast milk have created what looks like “moats” of protection around themselves.⁣

The student, Vicky Green, said she had similar results with Petri dishes full of e.Coli and the dreaded anti-biotic resistant “super bug” MRSA.⁣

“The white spots in the middle are discs soaked in two samples of breastmilk,” Green wrote in the caption of her post. “See the clear bit around the discs ― that’s where the proteins in the milk have inhibited the bacteria!”⁣

An article from YourPediatrician.com explains how this is possible:⁣

“About 80 percent of the cells in breast milk are macrophages, cells that kill bacteria, fungi and viruses. Breast-fed babies are protected, in varying degrees, from a number of illnesses, including pneumonia, botulism, bronchitis, staphylococcal infections, influenza, ear infections, and German measles. Furthermore, mothers produce antibodies to whatever disease is present in their environment, making their milk custom-designed to fight the diseases their babies are exposed to as well.”⁣

What’s even more impressive is that the samples of milk in the photos came from the mother of a 15-month-old and a 3-year-old, providing further evidence that breast milk continues to protect against illness long beyond infancy.

Mama’s we have ALL been there and have felt this so deeply! Yet- we feel as if we need to prove that everything is GREAT and we are just consumed by the JOY of being a new mom even though that is FAR from the actual truth of what we are feeling deep inside.

My main focus when coming to a new clients home is making sure that Mama can be open with how she is truly feeling by giving her a chance to process all of her emotions in a supportive and safe space. Being able to talk openly about it and work through these feelings helps Mama be able to move forward with more confidence, validation, and resolve so she can truly focus on feeding her baby 💕🤱🏻

My friend messaged me after I had a baby, “how are you?” her message read.

I responded,

“It’s harder than I thought, some moments I’m swept up in the beauty of motherhood, others I’m dragging myself around in a coffee-stained dressing gown with unwashed hair.

I know people say to take some time out for me, but in this season of being so needed I don’t know how.
I’m more tired than I ever imagined, though I could trace their tiny features for hours, I could watch the way a sneeze crinkles their eyes and takes them by surprise.

But I also feel a little lost at times, yet they are a seed in my bones, and I have never been more found.
Some days I sit in shadows and other’s the light fills me up inside and together we grow and grow.

My body aches, from birth, for the girl I once was, for sleep, for their scent. The shower feels like a break, though I always feel hurried.

Makes no sense, does it?

Some days I feel as if I’m not achieving much and yet I am rushed off my feet. Years can pass through these four walls in mere minutes.
My mind is all over the place, I want to press pause and yet I am already in awe of who they’re becoming.

We’re still figuring this whole thing out together, and yet it’s like I’ve known them forever. I feel a new type of wholeness, of being complete, but some days I just feel empty,

does this make any sense?

I’d love some time alone, but I am entangled in them, and yet that’s how I want it. My heart would be fumbling around in the dark without them. That’s another thing I wanted to tell you.. I’ve never thought with my heart so much, I’ve never seen so much with it either.

I’m not ready to have visitors just yet, but I miss you, I really do.
Thanks for checking in.”

But I didn’t.

Instead, I told her we were great, my baby was simply a dream, and that we couldn’t wait to see her.
Then I hit send.

Legendairy Milk on TikTok 05/26/2023

If babe gets bottles but is still breastfeeding… I highly recommend this side lying technique. Not only does it mimic breast flow more closely but it also allows baby to pace themselves and control the bottle flow which will reduce discomfort while feeding and gulping of air💕🍼

Legendairy Milk on TikTok Here are some tips for side-lying bottlefeeding: ✨Elevate your legs to about 45 degrees ✨Start with baby lying on their left side with their legs pointing in the same direction they are facing ✨Baby's bottom is against your belly ✨Their top arm can be in front of them ✨Their bottom arm can...
