The Halloween Extravaganza was a smashing success! Thank you to all who made this possible. From the popcorn machine to the balloon animals to the current and past client and kids joining us for a really great time. The day was made complete by Marianne Power joining us as the good witch. The LMC Care Bear team even welcomed a sweet Halloween baby at the end of the day. Thank you to everyone who came and made the day EXCELLENT!
A community Halloween Extravaganza, you say? An opportunity for LMC to see how big your babies have grown and to meet new families?! We vote YES!
Dress up in those costumes a little early this year and stop by! We’ll have some activities and treats. I wonder what the LMC staff will dress up as! 🤔
Only one way to find out! See you there 🎃
Today is our Midwives Birthday!! She is both silly and serious, caring and kind, fun and stern! She’s our mentor, preceptor, teacher, director, midwife, registered nurse, THERAPIST lol, a wife, a mom and friend! She wears so many hats at the cost of herself at times. She does it with a smile because she has a heart of gold and because this is her passion; to love all of us and our community! Please join us in wishing Amanda the happiest of birthdays! We love you beyond the stars and back, Happy Birthday!
Happy Spooky Season from LMC!

The office baby is in ♥️
Earlier this week, a special mom, after her lovely golden hour, said “Let’s see this organ I grew all on my own,” and we brought her placenta bedside to show it off to her.
Placentas are all unique, and are the reason babies can grow and thrive in utero. LMC has seen its share of “interesting” placentas, and so here are some placentas we have known and loved over the years.
In these photos, you’ll see velamentous insertions, cord avulsions, perfect normal placentas, bilobed, battledore insertions, and circumvallate. Hopefully, readers, you got a moment to appreciate your placenta and see where your baby became and grew. 👏🏼💫❤️
Finally.. they worked so hard! 👏🏻👏🏻
We are thrilled to announce that Alabama Birth Center has officially been granted a birth center license!
🌟We are now the first stand-alone birth center in North Alabama! 🌟
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing team members featured in this photo (Elisabeth, Dr. Robinson, Mariah, & Vanessa), and to those not pictured (Tracie, Mr. Johnson, Sarah, and our ACLU attorney, Lindsey ♥️). A special shoutout to everyone supporting us from the sidelines and behind the scenes (including you, Mr. Baxter!). We're also incredibly grateful to Callie, WHNP, from Alabama Women's Wellness Center, who played a crucial role in our early stages. Additionally, our thanks go out to everyone who has generously donated their time, money, and expertise, including contributions from the Yellowhammer Fund.
We could not have done it without you ALL!!
Now, LET'S HAVE SOME BABIES!! 👶🏻👶🏼👶🏽👶🏾👶🏿
We are delighted to welcome our Office Manager, Bella, back from her maternity leave!
She is excited to return to the front desk, now accompanied by a very special tiny assistant. After five-months of anticipation, we’d like to finally introduce the newest addition to the LMC team, Office Baby Quin!
Please join us in welcoming them both during your next visit to Clinic. ❤️
The world-traveler returns! Amanda wants to say a million thanks to the team who kept Lakeland Midwifery Care going while she took some much needed time off. See you all in clinic next week!
Happy International HomeBirth Day from the LMC Family to yours!!
Let’s all wish Marianne Power a happy birthday. On this day, we celebrated by having not one, but TWO babies on your special day.
We love and miss you and still invoke your name daily—WWMPD?

Room with a view.
Please consider helping in whatever way you can (gift cards!) for this very special LMC family.
After having their first baby together with us, they arrived excited in our office to begin care with their second. They told us a lovely vision of twins—that someone told them they would have.
I’m an optimistic skeptic, and thought “People say a lot of things to pregnant women; there’s surely only one.” But when we took a look with our hand held ultrasound THERE THEY WERE! The magical twins.
Twins. Spooning like little cuddly gummy bears.
We all began to cry. For our own private, special reasons. But for me, it was because I knew they needed a higher level of care than I can provide. But we kept appointments to check in because after all I’m still their midwife even if they also need a doctor and now—TOMORROW, in fact—their sweet twins are coming earthside.
If you can, please give. This family gives so much back to their community and they deserve to be showered in love as their adjust to two new sweet babies in their arms and lives.
Congrats Steph and Tonya! Get some sleep tonight if at all possible! ❤️❤️
Meal Train for Tonya and Steph The twins will be here super soon and let’s love on our friends Tonya and Steph and their family and feed their bellies as they bond and love on their new family 🤍
It doesn’t always have to be IG picture perfect.
Midwifery looks like this in real life: tender moments that still draw my tears, paper charting with quick births and a strong team, kittens who “help,” dogs who protect, cows who block entrances, beautiful sunrises, and a little bit of inevitable love/mess.
Future home birth clients take note! Lakeland Midwifery Care is not doing home births for the month of June in 2024.
We will continue to book people who are planning hospital births for June, but Amanda Mann is taking a vacation with her beloved family for an extended period of time.
Thank you for understanding our need for rest and recuperation, so we can always provide you with the best care possible. 🦢⭐️✨❤️
This is one of my favorite times too. Unrushed, baby unfolded for the first time, right there in the family bed. Magic! ✨
the newborn exam can be such a special moment, especially when it gets to happen at home. the whole family crowded around to meet the new community member, eagerly awaiting to hear just how big they are. a midwife and their assistant work from the end of the bed, in arm’s reach of the new parents.
when i pictured my homebirth, THIS was the moment i dreamt about. the joy, the pride, the support- and i look forward to it with every birth i attend 🧡✨
Check out the length of this umbilical cord! The umbilical cord forms early in pregnancy and acts as both tether and lifeline for your baby. Some cords, though, are extra special and are very long!
For perspective, I am 5ft and 2in, and am standing on my tippy toes to make sure it stretches all the way out!
