Thanks to everyone who donated, shopped and volunteered to help with this year's annual book sale fundraiser. It was a great success! For those of you who've asked what happens with the unsold books, they go to Isle, Minnesota, where they are used in book sale fundraisers to benefit groups in that area of our state. 🥰

Here’s what’s this week! For the kiddos we’ve got storytimes and a sensory-friendly Saturday. For the adults we have fall book bingo! Enjoy the classic game and win gently used books as prizes 📚

It's the final day of our annual book sale fundraiser. The $5 Bag Sale starts at 1 p.m. Everything you can fit in a bag for $5. Bags are sold at the door. See you there!

Thanks to our great volunteers who helped move thousands of boxed books to the sale room. If you have gently used books that you’d like to donate to our annual book sale fundraiser, please drop them off in the large Heritage Library meeting room between now and Wednesday night during library hours. And help spread the word that we are accepting book donations by telling your friends and family members. Thank you!

Benjamin Percy is the award-winning author for our 2024 Books With Friends event on April 20. The selection is The Ninth Metal, his first book in the Comet Cycle Trilogy. We're delighted to share that over the past 12 months, we've given over $13,100 to support library and community literacy and art programs, such as Heritage Library Summer Discovery Reading programs; author visits to LNHS and LSHS; ISD 194 Ready Set Achieve!; ECFE Community Baby Shower; Winter Arts Program, Pan-O-Prog Wendy's Wiggle, Giggle and Jam; and more! 😍

The Friends of the Heritage Library were so pleased to participate in Ready Set Achieve event. We gave out hundreds of books to students to help them get ready for the new school year! We wish all of our Lakeville students and teachers a fantastic year 📚❤️

The Friends of the Heritage Library are delighted to support the Lakeville Area Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) Community Baby Shower! Our contribution will be used to purchase board books for families expecting new little ones. ❤️

The National Book Festival takes place on August 12. Sponsored and hosted by the Library of Congress, this one-day extravaganza celebrates the American library tradition of across all genres and formats. Better still, you don't need to be in Washington DC to enjoy the festivities. Thanks to special funding, most of the main stage events will be livestreamed or recorded for broadcast after the fact.

Headliners will include novelists Rebecca Makkai and TJ Klune, U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón, and YA favorites Jesmyn Ward and Elizabeth Acevedo.

Library of Congress National Book Festival Announces Full Author Lineup The 2023 Library of Congress National Book Festival returns to the Washington Convention Center on Saturday, Aug. 12. The festival’s theme, “Everyone Has a Story,” celebrates the storyteller in us all

Summer fun is ! Summer Discovery kicks off Monday so come join the celebration! Pick up your summer reading materials and enjoy a variety of fun activities too. There’s always something good going on at the library ❤️📚

School is out here in Lakeville and summer has begun! Starting June 12, head to your nearest location to pick up your free Summer Discovery book and activity log - available while supplies last! Materials are available for Pre-Readers (birth-age 4), Readers (grades K-5), and Teens (grades 6-12). If you need reading suggestions, check out the library’s summer reading booklists or try the Book Match online for a personalized list of recommendations.

Tomorrow: Storytime at East Community Park! Read, play, sing, talk, and write together with your children’s librarian from Heritage Library. Weather dependent. Presented in partnership with Lakeville Parks & Rec. Geared for children ages 3 and older with their caregivers. This event takes place offsite at East Community Park located at 16700 Pilot K**b Road, Lakeville. Entrance on 167th St. W and Pilot K**b Road.

What’s this week? Storytime for Babies is back! And join us on Saturday to celebrate the release of Tangle-Knot, the adorable new children’s book by local author and Friends of the Heritage Library member Loretta Ellsworth! Hear a read aloud from the author herself and participate in fun activities related to the book. Geared for ages 3-8.

Check out what’s this week 👀 Both the eventing and afternoon book groups will be discussing “Her Country: How the Women of Country Music Became the Success They Were Never Supposed to Be” by Marissa R. Moss. New members are always welcome!
For teens looking for summer volunteering opportunities, the Heritage Library will be holding their Volunteen orientation. Open to youth ages 13-18. Complete the application on the website and a librarian will contact you to get you registered and ready to go!
And for a fun spring craft, make a wooden backyard birdfeeder! Presented on Saturday by ArtStart and geared for adults. Registration is currently full but a waitlist is available!

Calling all teens! Support summer reading and learning program by participating in Volunteens. Teens ages 13-18 are invited to volunteer to distribute free books and program materials, explain how the program works, and assist with summer events and projects. Attendance at an orientation is required to volunteer - the orientation at the Heritage Library will be held on Thursday, June 1 from 6:30-7:30pm. Visit the library website to register and become a Volunteen!

Join us in celebrating our own Friends of the Heritage Library member Loretta Ellsworth's new children's book Tangle-Knot at the Heritage Library on Saturday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m.

Visit the Friends of the Heritage Library reading nook! And take a moment to cozy up and read stories with your kids that include themes about mutual respect, diversity, environmental stewardship, caring and sharing.

Dress up your babies in their favorite fancy outfit for a morning of music, play, and dancing at Baby Prom 🤩 Continue to discuss our OneBook OneLakeville pick I Must Betray You by at Afternoon Book Discussion Group - new members always welcome! Come by Waggin’ Tales to read to therapy dogs and build literacy skills and confidence in reading out loud (geared for youth ages 5-10). And for the adults, register for Plant a Patch for Pollinators 🌱 Learn about seasonal planting and how to choose which species best suit your project. Presented by Dakota Co Parks and geared for adults **registration required**

History is the scaffolding of many hidden stories that connect us to one another. Author Ruta Sepetys met with members of both the Romanian and Lithuanian community before her discussion with Miss Shannan Paul.

Whether fans brought one book or a collection, New York Times Bestselling Author Ruta Sepetys signed them all while thanking everyone for coming to spend the evening discussing I Must Betray You and the importance of shared stories.

A special thank you to the Heritage Library staff and to the Friends of the Lakeville Heritage Library for all your hard work before, during and after OneBook OneLakeville. It was a night to remember! Thank you also to our community partners who help make this community-wide read and valued tradition possible!

It was a full house for OneBook OneLakeville! After opening remarks by Heritage Library Branch Manager Stephanie Opstad and Mayor Luke Hellier, Emcee Miss Shannan Paul and New York Times Bestselling Author led patrons through a riveting and emotional discussion of I Must Betray You. The fragility of democracy, the power of compassion, the value of taking time to understand others and their personal stories, resilience and the importance of working together were a few of the themes that emerged throughout the evening.
