DDRC’s Board of Directors got shoulder to shoulder earlier to create gift bags with notes, sweet treats, and gift cards they donated for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) Week, being celebrated here and across the country. Thank you to all the Board - and to Board Member MaryAnn Tillman for rallying the effort. Some Board members were also able to visit with our DSPs at DDRC’s many facilities to give them personal thanks. Sincere smiles, handshakes, and accolades all-around!
Our Board knows how crucial and wonderful our DSPs are. Connect with DDRC and our services to see for yourself!

Energizing, calming, sweet, refreshing that’s what our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) enjoyed today and yesterday when Travelin' Tom's Coffee of Arvada pulled up to our Walters and Weiland sites. It was a special thank you visit arranged by DDRC in honor of DSP Recognition week. Since our DSPS collaborate with people they serve in ways that are energizing, refreshing, calming and sweet- it all seemed to fit nicely! Rob DeHerrera was there share the fun start to the mornings and to give sincere thanks to all our DSPS!
And great sips from Travelin' Tom's, their coffees, teas, and specialty concoctions were wonderful!

In recognition of Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Week, DDRC's Board of Directors issued a proclamation to express their deep respect and appreciation for the truly important and impactful role these professional play in the lives of the people they support. Read it here. We trust you'll agree!

Starting today! We’re the host site for the CO Leadership Institute, a week-long, intensive leadership development program for seasoned and emerging I/DD leaders, run by the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities. With funding from the Colorado Developmental Disabilities Council (CDDC), DDRC helped coordinate scholarship opportunities for attendees, to cultivate learning and innovation among attendees from across the state. There’s an impressive line-up of national experts leading sessions and we are eager to hear from them! Great to partner with Colorado Developmental Disabilities Council and the Consortium. It’s Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) Recognition Week Sept 8-14. DDRC’s DSPs are the best, with their unwavering person-centered commitment! They’re providing crucial support in our Residential, Day Program, Support Services, and Employment Services, helping people with IDD live more independently, explore interests, be safe, and grow as people. Salute to them and all DSPs!

There are enthusiastic crowds at the “Hope Ink” tattoo events going on now to benefit Jefferson Center’s Su***de Prevention /awareness efforts. Permanent and Temporary tats too. DDRC was glad to be there as a supporter/ sponsor in appreciation of everything Jefferson Center does to nurture and protect positive mental health - and in regard for our partnerships with them. We had the pleasure to be part of the provider resource fair at Children’s Hospital Colorado for their professional and medical staff. What a terrific event! DDRC Early Intervention, Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinic and Admin staff spoke with many caring and knowledgeable members of the Children’s Hospital team. It was a great opportunity to learn from each other and make connections. Thank you, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and Richard Ruthersby, BSN,RN, for organizing this well run and helpful event, and for including DDRC!

Mamadou Ouattara was recognized for being the Direct Support Professional (DSP) of the Year as at the August Alliance Summit selected earlier this spring. His big smile is matched by an even bigger dedication to authentic person-centered service. Rob DeHerrera, our Executive Director couldn’t be more proud and grateful for Mamadou’s work, and for ALL the DSP staff at DDRC! Show your gratitude to a DSP during next week’s DSP Recognition Week!

The Regis University Men’s Baseball team hit a home run with their recent volunteer help painting the gyms of our Weiland and Walters Facilities. A huge help! Community Service and teambuilding are a big part of the team’s and University’s values. After the painting, the team enjoyed pizza with DDRC staff and participants, and gained a new understanding of our mission to advance inclusion and opportunity for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Thank you to the team, Assistant Coach Vaught, and University for “aspiring to more” and making a difference in the world!

DDRC is creating innovative ways to connect our day program 🚙🚶♀️➡️and employment services to broaden the experience, information, and enjoyment of participants-and to expose them to the possibilities of various types of jobs 💪and industries. Cool!😎 Heather Hagan, DDRC Assistant Director of Employment Services, shared what we’ve been doing and what we’re planning next⏰, during the session she led at the recent Alliance Summit. Great job, Heather, of adding to the information-packed and inspirational Alliance Summit by Alliance Colorado.
Kudos to our DDRC Day Program and Employment Services staff for finding creative ways to make wins for people we serve! To find out how you or a loved one can participate contact our team at [email protected].

We were excited to hear DDRC’s staff expert on Benefits Planning, Lee Sylvester, share his experience with professionals attending the Alliance Summit, alongside presenters from HCPF, the CO Office of Employment First, and Div. of Vocational Rehab. Lee’s deep knowledge helps people with disabilities understand how a job and income interact with their government benefits, and how that can be positive. Misconceptions create doubt about working, but Lee knows the real facts, rules and regulations to guide people to the life they want!!

DDRC’s Walters garden 🍅in Arvada is in full bloom, and it’s producing veggies, smiles, and fulfillment. Many of our day program participants assist and enjoy the garden, but Bryan never misses a day. We started some plants from seed and are now harvesting squash we’ll be using in our cooking 🍳program. Participants are learning about gardening, healthy eating, food preparation and cooking skills: growing as people ☺️, while growing a garden. Yeah Bryan: can’t wait to see what you cook-up!
It’s not too late to join us for these or other day program activities. Call 303.233.3363 and ask to speak with Kerrianne Rigney who can help guide you on your next steps.

We struck gold! Thanks to the Geers donation, participants from our DDRC AVS/Waters programs recently got to explore the Phoenix Gold Mine in Idaho Springs. It was something they wanted to do, and finally got the opportunity . They traveled 400 ft into the gold mine and then took a train ride through the mountains. Learning, history, outdoors; a different and exhilarating experience! Participants and staff had a “golden day.” Want to join us? The turnout at today’s Jeffco Public Schools Community Resource Fair was terrific! We spoke with many new educators and school representatives (counselors, social workers, nursing, student/family engagement staff, Response Team, etc.), sharing all we do, and learning about their valuable efforts. It was great to visit with the other organizations who attended too! We look forward to connecting further with all of them and serving students with disabilities and families of Jeffco Public Schools - Colorado !
Thank You., Public Schools - Colorado for organizing this event.
