It’s Juneteenth! Let’s talk about the celebration, its history and meaning!
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19 that Union soldiers landed in Galveston, Texas, with news the war had ended and the enslaved were now free. As part of their community outreach, our Life Plan communities have been hosting a series of Health Fairs over the last several weeks. Each provided their own community spin to the event but they welcomed residents, regional community members and team members to discover healthy lifestyle tips, food preparation ideas as well as blood pressure checks and more.

Stop by and say hi to these two cuties at Presbyterian Village of Hollidaysburg. They spend much of their day following their "mom" Steph Aspinall, Executive Director, and visiting residents. You can't help but smile when you see them.

Wilma Groetski is an amazing woman who was honored earlier this week when she was awarded the 2024 PSL Altruism Award. Friends, family and many from Pine Run and PSL celebrated Wilma at a lovely luncheon. Wilma gives so much of her love to others. It was wonderful to give back to her.

PSL celebrates National CNA Week from June 13-19! 🌟 This year's theme is "We’ll Be There For You.” Join us in honoring our amazing CNAs who make a difference every day.

Healthier Days does more than encourage healthy living; the program also fosters teamwork… and maybe even a little healthy competition. Ultimately, residents’ efforts translate to tangible rewards that enrich resident life. Since the launch of the program, participation has outpaced the original goal of 10%, reaching nearly 20% in the third quarter.

How does Healthier Days work? At the start of each quarter, residents receive a new challenge featuring three daily goals, for example: Do good for 20 minutes, eat a healthier snack, and drink 30 ounces of water. Challenges are designed to be clear, achievable and truly beneficial. For every successful portion of the challenge they meet, a financial reward is earned in return for their community from Healthier Living Challenge funds. Funds earned have purchased such community enhancements as garden planters, solar lighting for outdoor gardens, countertop ice makers for residents, Amazon Echo devices for music and meditation, fitness instruction,

Recognizing Juneteenth and Pride Month

Recognizing Juneteenth and Pride Month The month of June offers many celebrations honoring our nation's diversity. This year, we are focusing on the importance of Juneteenth and Pride Month.

Our communities had a lot of fun in May! These picnics, outings, celebrations, competitions, gatherings and special guests are just a few of highlights from the many events residents and team members enjoy together!

In recognition of Pride Month, the PSL team and communities celebrate and affirm the dignity, equality and increased visibility of le***an, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people as a social group. We also recognize the older population in this community.

LGBTQ+ older people are living vibrant, full lives across the U.S. and around the world. While the U.S. census has never measured how many LGBTQ+ people live in America, reports estimate that there are currently around 3 million LGBTQ+ adults over age 50. That number is expected to grow to around 7 million by 2030.
