The Foundation of Stewardship - Our Relationship with God

"Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator." Colossians 3:9-10 (ESV)

The journey of stewardship begins with our relationship with God. Paul’s letter to the Colossians emphasizes the transformative power of this relationship, highlighting how it affects every facet of our lives, especially how we manage relationships.

The notion of putting off our old selves and putting on new selves suggests a significant transformation. This transformation is not merely cosmetic; it is an inward overhaul that manifests outwardly in our actions, thoughts, and behaviors. The pivot point for this transformation is our acknowledgment of God's sovereignty and our honest reflection of our own fallen state and need for redemption.

This foundation is essential not only for personal spirituality but also for how we interact and steward relationships with others. If we trust God to renew us daily, we must also trust Him to guide us in our dealings with others.

Prayer:
Holy Father, I come before You in humility, acknowledging my need for Your grace. Help me to put off my old self and to embrace the new self that You have given me through Christ. Transform my heart and mind so that I may steward my relationships well, always acting in honesty, love, and forgiveness. Guide me as I seek to honor You in every interaction, reflecting Your love to those around me. Amen.

Today, take a moment to reflect on your relationship with God. Ask yourself whether you are allowing Him to guide your interactions with others. Commit to being honest and loving in your relationships, reflecting the new self you have in Christ.

Stewardship Part 2 07/09/2024

Luke 16:10: "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much."

The principle of faithfulness is a recurring theme in the Bible, particularly in relation to money and stewardship. In Luke 16:10, Jesus sets out a clear standard for trustworthiness. This principle is echoed in Pastor Adam's sermon ( https://www.youtube.com/live/7ZtMfIclGDI?feature=shared ) where he emphasizes that faithfulness with a little can lead to being entrusted with more.

Our society teaches us that having more is the solution to our problems, but the Bible offers a different perspective. True faithfulness begins with how we handle the resources we already have. The parable of the talents found in Matthew 25:14-31, vividly illustrates this principle. The master evaluated his servants not by how much they had but by what they did with what they were given.

Pastor Adam shares that our financial management is an area where we must be particularly diligent. The record-high credit card debt in America is a sign that many are not managing their finances well, driven by the belief that more money will solve their issues. However, faithfulness in small matters, like budgeting a modest income or being diligent in small acts of kindness, demonstrates to God that we can be trusted with greater blessings.

Faithfulness requires an intentional shift in our mindset—from seeking more to being diligent and faithful with what we have. This faithfulness is not just about money but also about our time, talents, and resources. It challenges us to be good stewards of everything God has entrusted to us.

Prayer
Lord, help us to be faithful stewards of all the resources You have given us. Teach us to manage our finances wisely, to give generously, and to serve faithfully. Guide our hearts to prioritize Your kingdom above our own desires. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Reflect on one area where you feel you have not been as faithful as you could be. Commit to making a change. Whether it’s setting up a budget, starting to tithe, or giving your time to help others, take a step towards faithfulness this week.

Our NHBC Youth Group had a great time at their weekly “Doughnuts and Devotionals” time with Pastor Adam! The message today was from Revelation 3:14-20, and we discussed what it means to be spiritually indifferent. The Lord wants us to be on fire for Him and to pursue Him with passion so that He can lead, guide, and direct our daily lives. We also had some great fellowship and of course yummy Dunkin’ Donuts! If you are looking for somewhere for your family and your children/youth to plug in, give us a try! We’d love to have you join us!

Pastor Steven provides verse-by-verse Bible teaching, believing that God’s Word is truth and the sole means of sanctification for the believer (John 17:17). We believe that having a thorough knowledge of God’s Word will result in the believer being equipped to do the work of ministry (Eph. 4:11-12), as well as have a daily walk that is worthy of the Lord (Eph. 4:1).
