Today is my LAST day at the Allen Neighborhood Center’s Accelerator Kitchen.

Smoothie Queen is officially MOVING to a new location (can’t say where yet… it’s a surprise) but I will be making an announcement soon. 😉

I want to say THANK YOU soooo much to the wonderful people at ANC. This has been such an amazing experience and I will forever be grateful.

In the meantime, Smoothie Queen is officially a “free agent” while we’re in transition mode (probably for a couple weeks) we are open to doing Pop-Up shops, Kitchen Take Overs, Brunch Collaborations etc…. If you own a local business and you would like to collab with us, please don’t hesitate to reach out 😁

🌸 Womens History Month 🌸

To celebrate womens history month I wanted to share MY history as becoming Smoothie Queen with you guys!
(⚠️ SUPER Long Post Alert ⚠️)

After being let go from my 9-5 call center job I had to turn to my photography skills for extra income, and at the time it wasn’t enough to support me.

One day, I was scrolling on online and I kept seeing pictures of Smoothie Bowls, so I thought to myself, why is there not a black-owned smoothie shop that sells Smoothie Bowls (nothing popped up on google for me at that time) - so I decided to buy a blender, some fruit and make my own. To my surprise it turned out REALLLY good, like one of the best things I’ve ever had. I decided to use my photography skills and take a really nice picture of it and ask my friends on Facebook if they were interested in purchasing from me if I were to start a business.

I was shocked when SOOO many people wanted one and all of a sudden I had lines of cars outside of my apartment trying to order smoothies. It was such a blessing. After about a year of doing that and being very successful…. the colder months hit and I fell on hard times.

I ended up losing my apartment and having to live in my car. It was super embarrassing and I felt like I failed in life. On top of all of that the WORLD was dealing with a global pandemic and I was hopping from AirBnB to Hotel. Thankfully my community supported me soo much that I was able to sell smoothies out of the back of my trunk. I would wake up early in the morning, fill a cooler FULL of smoothies and drive around Lansing delivering smoothies until nighttime. When I tell you that was so physically and emotionally draining. Imagine not knowing where you’re sleeping that night but you just HAVE to make enough money that day to be able to afford a warm bed. That was probably one of my lowest points in life.

From there, I was able to set aside enough money to get my food license and transition my business to Allen Neighborhood Center’s incubator kitchen. And the rest is still history being written!

I share this story with you all to encourage you to NEVER give up on your dreams. You are more powerful than you realize 💖

The world around us is changing, we see it everyday at the gas pump, the grocery store and in almost every industry. My fear is that just like with the pandemic, businesses who don’t adjust and adapt will ultimately be left behind.

However rather than just springing a change upon all of you, we prefer to be HONEST and open with our customers because you guys all SO amazing and truly deserve that.

The cost of retail foods have climbed an average of 15% over the last year. Our increases only reflect a 12% change to ensure that you continue to get the high quality smoothies you expect, while covering some of that cost from our profits.

We hope that you will continue to support us as we navigate these new waters.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Here are FOUR amazing women who personally inspire me.

- Not only is she an incredible friend who pours love and light into everyone around her, but she’s such an intelligent business woman. Always so deeply creative and thoughtful. Everything she does has meaning behind it and that’s so beautiful to me. One conversation with this woman and you leave feeling so empowered and full of self-love.

- Probably one of the most hardworking woman I know. Confident, beautiful and a genuine good person. I love the true passion she has for her business and the way she uplifts others with her words of wisdom. She’s a true visionary and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.

- I’ve known this incredible person for YEARS, we actually went to school together. I am always amazed and blown away by what this woman creates. She is such a talented artist and as we’ve gotten closer over the past year I’m starting to see how similar we actually are when it comes to our inner world (Sagittarius connection ♐️) She’s another great friend and an overall good person.

Lastly I want to highlight - Someone who I admire so much when it comes to being a business owner. Her brand has inspired a lot of my own and she has shown me that it is POSSIBLE to be a successful black woman business owner in this community. I pray nothing but continued success for you and your business. Thank you for inspiring so many.

What is a smoothie bowl?

A smoothie bowl is a thick blend of frozen fruits, veggies and other healthful mix-ins (e.g. avocado, oats or yogurt). Compared to the smoothies you’re used to sipping with a straw, the base of a smoothie bowl has a slightly thicker, almost ice-cream like consistency. The colorful base then gets poured into a bowl and decorated with toppings. Some of our favorites include chia seeds and chocolate granola.

These bowls can be a healthier option for a meal replacement.
