Today was our annual Labor Day lunch where we celebrated our employees and all of their hard work! We appreciate each and every one! 💜

Today we served:
🍕624 slices of pizza from Peppino’s Pizzeria East Lansing and Peppino's Pizzeria DeWitt
🍗850 pieces of chicken from Eastside Fish Fry & Grill
🥪252 pieces of subs (64 sub sandwiches) from Big John Steak & Onion

Thank you to these amazing restaurants for helping us provide the most delicious lunch to our 250 employees!

On August 17, we were honored to be part of the Jaron Logan Czachowrski’s Headspvce
3rd Annual Golf Outing! The Scholarship Fund awards a scholarship to an Ithaca High School Student to further their music and/or art studies after high school.

Many of our employees were able to participate for this important cause! 💜

We had our annual holiday lunch last week where we celebrated our employees for perfect attendance, safe driving, and longevity awards.

A special congratulations to two of our sales team members, Patrick and Martin on 30 years of service. We thank you for you hard work and dedication!

It’s always the greatest weekend in racing when it’s the Capital City River Run benefiting Impression 5 Science Center. We cheered on all weekend from the smallest runners at the Sohn Kids Race, our employees who ran and volunteered, and everyone crossing that finish line! Most notably, we cheered on our very own, Kevin B. as he was awarded the 2023 Larry Brown Citizen Runner of the Year, started off the races on Sunday, then ran the half marathon (as a pacer, too)!

Congratulations to all the racers - from the 100m dash to the half marathon - on another exciting race weekend!

This past weekend we were honored to be a sponsor at the Jaron’s Headspvce- Jaron Logan Czachowrski Memorial Scholarship 2nd Annual Golf Outing. This golf outing raises funds for scholarships to be given to an Ithaca High School Student who is furthering their music and/or art studies! Many of our employees were able to play to support this important cause as well!

Today we enjoyed lunch from Soup Spoon Cafe and cupcakes from Bake N' Cakes - local customers of ours! Delicious!

Last week, we were fortunate to attend the annual HR Management Conference hosted by CSCNetwork in Houston, TX! We spent a day and a half learning and collaborating with our HR peers in the independent laundry business. Thank you CSC for another great conference!

4-15 is National Laundry Day! 🫧 We've compiled a few (of many) fun facts about Sohn Linen Service and her 90 year history:

Our original building, occupied from 1933-1960, was located on North Larch Street in Lansing, MI. Back then we were known as Sohn Bros. Linen Service until our name was changed in 1954 to Sohn Linen Service.

On average, we process 400,000 pounds of laundry per week (that’s over 20 MILLION pounds per year). We currently occupy two large two story buildings to accomplish the multitudes of laundry that we do – from sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding, steaming, hanging, packaging, putting the orders together, and loading the trucks, we need a lot of space 😊

Our Grand River building is 63 years young, and is still our main production facility. We expanded a bit, and added on to the building in 1976 and 1995. Most recently (in 2023) we converted much of our original garage space to additional production space (you know, to efficiently process the 20 million pounds of laundry).

We still utilize our original boiler that was put into service in 1960! Our secondary boiler was put into service in 1961, and is also still used today!

Our Wood Street location was completed in 2002 and houses our administrative office, service team, as well as production finishing and route-makeup space.

Over the last several weeks, 39 employees have received their First Aid/CPR/AED certification! We are fortunate to have an American Red Cross certified trainer here at Sohn Linen Service! Thank you Renee for your ongoing dedication to providing our employees with this informational and lifesaving training. We are a safer workplace because of you!

Today is International Women’s Day!

Tillie (Ottilia) Sohn is one of the founders of Sohn Linen Service, and after the passing of her husband, Joseph P. Sohn, she served as President from 1972 – 1995. Many will remember her continued dedication to the company well into her 90’s. Because of her dedication, Sohn Linen Service has not only propelled to the company it is today, but she paved the way for the future of women in this company. Currently, half of the Board of Directors is comprised of women, and over half of our managers in the company are women. For this, we are proud.

Tillie was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and a board member of the Education Foundation. She was a long time member of the League of Catholic Women, Association of Catholic Business Women, and the Lansing Council #788 of the Knights of Columbus (K of C). Tillie and Joe were founding members of the Table Top Association of Greater Lansing. Tillie was a board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing.

Tillie passed away in April of 2010 (just shy of her 102nd birthday), but her legacy will never be forgotten. 💜
