Last night we reached 1300 adoptions! (If your cat is one of those 1300, leave a picture.)

When we started, my dreams were so much smaller than that. Now I set crazy ambitious goals (like 500 adoptions in 2022) and our team is like, “We can do that!” Or raising $26,000 for a down payment on our own building.

We still need $15,000 to ensure we can keep finding homes for rescue cats in perpetuity. Whether you chip in $5 or $50, your contribution means so much to us.

Booking a cat room visit or signing up to attend an event is also SO helpful! This week we have several fun choices:

Wednesday, 6/22, 6:30-8 pm: Flower Crowns
Friday, 6/24, 6-9 pm, Pride Photoshoots in Old Town with Like the Planet Photography
Friday, 6/24, 7-9 pm, Witcher Trivia
Saturday, 6/25, 1-5 pm, Pride Scavenger Hunt
Sunday, 6/26, 6-8 pm, Self Care Sunday

Check out this webinar hosted by our partner's at International Society for Participatory Mapping. Counter mapping in the heart of Latin America is an inspiration to all community activists.

This is the third Webinar set up by the ISPM, to present visions and stimulate discussions on urgent issues in participatory mapping / PGIS globally.

This webinar, to be delivered on 16 June 2022, 13.00-14.30 (Mexico Central time/ CST), and presents the efforts of three significant organisations in Latin America, very active in developing the strengths of PM and critical cartography so as to apply them to support activists in real political, social and cultural urban struggles in the continent. They stimulate networks, develop appropriate tools and media with training materials, and support local activist mappers, and the resultant maps and imagery challenge authoritative mapping and spatial hegemony.

Two of the presentations will be offered in Spanish and one in Portuguese (with english subtitles in Zoom). Questions and comments at the conclusion of the presentations may be in any of the 3 languages.

As we continue to work with cities and police departments to adopt Police Social Worker programs, it has become apparent that a Social Worker can only do so much to support those with mental health issues if there's no services to provide them after the initial call. We hope the Police Officers Association of Michigan and Mental Health Association in Michigan will work together to pressure state and federal policy makers to re-invest in long-term mental health and recovery services.

As Sheriffs we are elected to protect all the citizens in our Counties including those who may be going through difficult times. In the past month we have transported several people who were looking for help, to be evaluated by our local Mental Health. Do you want to take a guess on how many received treatments? None. When are we going to have a meaningful discussion on the broken Mental Health system in Michigan?

This past weekend Sheriff Deputies came to the aid of a young subject who decided they no longer wanted to live and drove their car into a group of trees at nearly 100 m.p.h. The subject was transported to one of our local hospitals who administered medical care and Mental health was subsequently called in to assess them and decided the subject was not a threat to themselves and was sent home with a “safety plan”.

This does not sit well with us!

We are asking that you help us start the discussion locally, contact your state representatives, contact your mental health board and help us figure out how we can fix this problem. These are our brother, sisters, sons, and daughters who are crying out for help. We owe it to ourselves to make a change.
