Tuesday Tip: Fireworks Safety for Fourth of July

As we gear up for Independence Day, safety around fireworks is crucial. Did you know fireworks cause about 19,500 fires annually?

To celebrate safely:
- Supervise children closely with sparklers and fireworks.
- Purchase legal fireworks only and store them properly.
- Never attempt to make your own fireworks.
- Avoid handling fireworks under the influence.
- Use fireworks outdoors, away from structures and keep a safe distance.
- Keep pets indoors during fireworks displays.
For safe lighting:
- Wear protective eyewear and keep water nearby.
- Never aim fireworks at people or objects.
- Light one firework at a time and move away quickly.

O'Dell has served since 1989, including a 1997 deployment to Latvia. "I am honored to serve, and to be celebrated and recognized for that service is an honor as well. It is important to honor the contributions of women serving in the military. I am a private, behind-the-scenes Soldier, but this is an important celebration that I am happy to be part of."

USA Hockey's NTDP and USA Hockey Arena are proud to team up with Region 9 Veterans Community Action Team and Region 10 Veterans Community Action Team to host the 13th annual Salute to Heroes Appreciation Nights. 🏒

Veterans of all eras, active military and first responders with their family members are invited to attend for a night of family fun, camaraderie and honor and can reserve their free tickets online or by email. Details in flyer below.

February is Black History Month, all month long, we will be sharing photos and a little about our National Guard members to celebrate their diverse backgrounds.

Meet Lt. Col. Carey J. Jackson IV
46th Military Police Command , Michigan National Guard

Jackson has served for more than 22 years, including a 2020 COVID response mission. His most memorable experience in the military was serving as a chaplain assistant. "This observance is important to me because it reminds me and many others of the accomplishments and contributions that may have been either forgotten or not known at all. It is about highlighting efforts of the entire team and bringing into fruition the ideal of camaraderie and the Army values, ultimately, the Army we strive to be."

BG Hiipakka-ism for this weekend. "Look at yourself and your team and think what can I (we) do to be better today."

donated a great musical kit to the Adjutent General's Holiday Luncheon Fundraiser for the Military Family Relief Fund. Members of the unit helped raised several hundred dollars for MING military families.

Today members of the 46th Military Police Command gave back by helping with Trees for Troops, a program of the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, provides free, farm-grown Christmas Trees to United States armed forces members in all branches of the military and their families, through donations, sponsorships, grants and the work of many volunteers.
