SPD affects how individuals process sensory information, leading to overwhelming or heightened responses. This can cause reactions such as screaming when faces get wet or severe mood swings. SPD often affects toddlers and is commonly linked with autism. Occupational therapists are skilled in identifying abnormal sensory behaviors and creating treatment plans.
