The Tombaugh Gallery presents the art work of Dennis Lujan, beginning with an opening reception on Sunday, September 12, 11:30 to 1:30. Dennis is the first artist exhibiting at the gallery in person since the beginning of the pandemic. The exhibit will feature abstract paintings based on the floaters he has in his eyes. This will be a multi-media experiment with an interpersonal context, showing how the floaters can be transformed into brightly colored fantasy landscapes and interstellar worlds that are yet to be discovered. The exhibit will also include Electric Engines, using found objects. These often have a unique name describing what they are and what they represent. Each one contains circuit boards and copper, as the energy for the sculpture.
Dennis began his art career in the commercial arts, spending time in the mid-west working in marketing the business of art. He went back to college to pursue theater and fine art. He used his art skills to design and build sets and props and costume designs. Settling in Las Cruces 17 years ago, he immediately dove into the art scene, including opening the gallery In Effect. He has a history of giving back to the community, often donating his best work to charities and he is always exploring the possibilities of art.
The exhibit continues through October 8. The Tombaugh Gallery is at 2000 S. Solano and is part of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Las Cruces. Masks are required. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm. These times might change due to Covid-19.
