I am both a mom and a professor at the University at Buffalo. I am conducting a study on the experiences of undergraduate student-mothers attending 2-year or 4-year institutions in urban or rural communities. Specifically, I am interested in understanding how federal policies, such as COVID-19 relief packages, can influence student-mothers' educational choices and experiences. I am also interested in this population’s experiences with campus support programs.
In order to be eligible to participate, you must be an undergraduate student with at least one child and have received Pell grant financial aid (or be eligible to receive federal financial aid). If you choose to participate, you will receive a $25 gift card after both the first and second interview and a $50 gift card after the third interview as compensation. Your participation is completely voluntary and you may stop participation at any point during the study.
Participation takes the form of completing three, individual interviews over the course of 9 months (1st in late spring/early summer 2022; 2nd in late fall 2022; and 3rd in spring 2023) that can be scheduled at your convenience. Each interview will take place via Zoom or phone and will be about one hour long. Additionally, at each interview you will be asked to submit a list of your major forms of aid received at the first and third interviews.
If you are interested in participating, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Please feel free to share this invitation with anyone you know who might be interested in participating!
Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.
