Had an awesome opportunity to train on the range with .acosta.jr of . Great training revisiting the fundamentals. My goal was to knock some rust off and have a professional eye nip in the bud any inefficiencies. It was 🥵 out here at 108°, but it was so worth it. If you’re a protector of life, you owe it to yourself and those you protect to train every chance you get.

I had the privilege this week of providing these clubhouse workers with CPR/AED training. Cudos to them deciding to get this training after they had an medical emergency at their tennis court. Just wrapped up 3 days in the ASP Instructor Course. I learned a lot and I’m pooped 🥵. I’m looking forward to providing high quality baton, handcuffing and flashlight tactics to citizens and professionals. Thanks to ASP and our instructors Mike and Rene for a great class.

I traveled from the desert of SoNV all the way out to Kansas for a day to train with the Legendary Lawman of Agile Training and Consulting. Look no further than this course for OC spray instructor certification. The value in this class far exceeds what you’ll get in other OC training I’ve found on the market. I learned so much data about OC, how to choose OC products, how to deploy it and how to train others. Chuck’s depth of knowledge of less-lethal and his experience are an incredible resource. I’m excited to start offering this training so my students and colleagues so they have another tool “between a harsh word and a gun”. This was an awesome experience and well worth the trip. If you get a chance to train with Chuck, don’t pass it up.

I literally just re-certified my WFR and CPR certifications this weekend and had to use my skills tonight, 3 days later. Nothing heroic in my eyes. Just happened to be there at the right time and was both trained and willing to do something about it. Be that person. This is why I do what I do. I’m not a paid professional rescuer anymore, but I choose to train and keep my skills up. I feel called to be a protector and preserver of life and to teach others to do the same. Plan to get some life saving training soon and don’t be a bystander. Choose to help someone in a time of need.

Spent the weekend re-certifying my NOLS Wilderness First Responder certification. It was great to refresh my knowledge, sharpen my assessment skills and learn new emergency care updates for care in austere environments. Having this skillset has helped me be a more prepared person and emergency care instructor. It’s also opened many doors for me as a security professional and protector. A special thanks to Pete and Jose from and NOLS for their excellent instruction this weekend.

We had a great day of training today at HPT. Students learned how to do CPR, how to stop life-threatening bleeding and how to immediately respond in an active violence emergency.

This verse generates a whole lot of heat because Jesus talks about weapons, but the premise here is simple and important whatever your position on that hot button issue.

Luke 22 is Jesus’ farewell to His disciples with final preparation and discussion before His crucifixion, death, resurrection, and ascension. In our passage He reminds the disciples that on their first missionary journey He told them to take *nothing*. No bag. No extra shoes. No money. And He provided what they needed as they needed it on their way. But from this point He tells them that He will be ascending to the Father and they would be responsible for themselves. Much like children grow up and provide for themselves as adults, the disciples must grow up. Take money to buy things. A bag to have theirs uff in. A sword for protection from brigands. They will provide for themselves from here on out.

The sword here is not a kitchen tool or hunting implement. It was the Roman gladius, the sword of the soldier. A military-grade weapon as it were. And the purpose of them having one was to protect from harm, not to use offensively but defensively. Not to force conversion or take advantage of others but to defend life and protect the vulnerable and weak from being preyed upon.

In fact, the entirety of their provision was to allow them to go fulfill the Great Commandment and Great Commission. To go spread the love of Jesus around without burdening others and with some semblance of safety.

So if you’re a pro-2a kinda person, great. Me, too. But don’t get wrapped around the axle about this verse. Jesus allows His followers to have the means of self-protection and that’s part of their provision for themselves. But It’s only part of a tool kit, and the mission is to be able to go make disciples not go buy guns.

So sure, carry your tools wherever possible. And go love people lavishly like Jesus did and does. Don’t hide behind your CCW but use your skills and tools to love people well.
