I recently published an article in the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research with John P. Walsh, Ryland McDermitt, Mark Hsiao, Landon Rosevear and Shivali Guptaa that helps with understanding scooter-related injuries and that they need to be used with caution! 🛴. Video is of a very compliant patient of mine using her scooter correctly and safely after a bad fall where she experienced a fracture and was repaired using plates and screws for fixation resulting in a perfect final x-ray result. Bottom line is use the knee scooter with caution as accidents do happen. Link for full paper here and in my bio:

2023 GRADUATES! | We would like to congratulate Program Director Dr. Troy Watson’s recent graduates—fellow Chris Harasym, D.O., and residents Keith Kotecki, D.O., and Shivali Gupta, D.O.
Chris completed his foot and ankle fellowship this past year. He will be continuing his career in Washington State with a private practice as an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle reconstruction and trauma.
Keith is moving on to a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He hopes to return out west to begin life as a private practice orthopaedic surgeon.
Shivali is heading to Harborview Medical Center at the University of Washington to complete a foot and ankle reconstruction fellowship. She is the first woman to graduate from our young orthopaedic residency program. Following her fellowship, she will be stationed somewhere in the world servicing the military.
To celebrate, Dr. Watson recently hosted an annual residency celebration at his lovely home with all the orthopaedic residents.

WE ARE OPEN! | As we are seeing patients for safe in-office appointments, we are following guidelines to protect our patients and the members of our team.
COVID-19 Safety Measures We Are Taking:
1. All exam rooms, tables, etc., are disinfected between patients.
2. All commonly used surfaces are disinfected multiple times per day.
3. Rigorous hand hygiene protocol is enforced for all providers and staff.
4. We are screening all patients for symptoms. Those patients with symptoms will be asked to leave and reschedule their appointment, and to contact their primary care physician or local ER for care and guidance. In the rare instance when the appointment is for musculoskeletal emergency/urgency, we adhere to rigorous CDC and public health protocols designed to prevent transmission.
5. All of our staff members are wearing face masks.
6. Patients experiencing flu-like symptoms are being rescheduled.
7. Telehealth appointments are available for new and existing patients.

Dr.Watson’s latest publication with the orthopaedic residents at Valley Hospital Las Vegas. The study shows fixing Achilles Tendon ruptures with a minimally invasive technique (Dr. Watson’s preferred method) does not place the rural nerve at increased risk as some have suggested.
This is a safe and effective technique that allows patients to return to activity a bit quicker than traditional techniques and lowers the incidence of wound healing issues.
