"Stopping on Strip pedestrian bridges could now result in a misdemeanor conviction.
Clark County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to approve an ordinance prohibiting individuals from stopping, standing or engaging in an activity that causes another person to stop on Strip pedestrian bridges or near escalators, elevators or stairways connected to the bridges."

For years, LVMPD had been telling performers on The Strip that they had to keep everything off the ground; and sometimes, that performers had to keep walking while performing. Thankfully, that’s not what I saw last week on the Las Vegas Strip. Even on a busy Friday night, I didn’t see performers constantly looking over their shoulder trying to evade the police.

The ACLU is Back! Under new leadership, the Nevada American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU NV) has returned to it’s former greatness.
On the Eleventh Day of Victories we're celebrating preventing Clark County from restricting activity on the Las Vegas Strip.
Clark County was considering an anti-obstruction ordinance that would consider pedestrian bridges as "crosswalks" which would prevent First Amendment activity such as street performers.
Thankfully, the ordinance was denied and we successfully protected First Amendment activity on The Strip!

Thank you Busk NY for stepping up in 2014!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to NYC performers and their supporters. (Please share!) We proved something today: this is a community that is proud, close-knit, articulate, and organized, and we will see the truth out there!
The rally couldn't have happened without the outpouring of support to write emails, create publicity, make signs, lug instruments and sound equipment, sing songs, and speak out for freelance performance. Some it was organized, some of it was spontaneous, and we appreciate all of it.
We mean what we said: subway performance is a movement, a profound chunk of the contemporary growth of public transit and public experience, and it's here to stay and expand. New York, let's go out to busk with pride tomorrow!

"The Busker's Guide to the Galaxy is a tool to support street performers with their grassroots campaigning, to educate the public, and to bring together the community in an effort to stem the tide of anti-busking legislation that seems to be affecting buskers all over the world."
The Busker's Guide to the Galaxy has launched!
It is a tool to support street performers with their grassroots campaigning, to educate the public, and to bring together the community in an effort to stem the tide of anti-busking legislation that seems to be affecting buskers all over the world.
It’s also intended as an alternative to the hundreds of disassociated groups on the corporate beast that is Facebook. This means no ads, no sponsorships, we’re not selling your data, and we’re not trying to get you addicted.
How does it work?
Buskers create articles, just like how we all can write stuff on Wikipedia. They can report where and when they were fined, or promote a petition, or suggest what equipment is the best for the street. Or, maybe they’ll ask for help fighting a council trying to pass a new law.
This guide will have the power to transform the way people see street performance, dispelling myths and revealing truths, while helping buskers to organise, earn, busk, and defend their rights. With your help, it's going to be huge!
The guide’s website is now live, and to celebrate we’re having a launch giveaway competition. For your chance to win some fantastic prizes, create a profile and begin posting articles here:

“As I’ve said before, I think this ordinance is reactionary, it’s short-sighted, and it’s going to impact a lot of people,” violinist Brandon Summers said at the Clark County Commission meeting on Tuesday.

Proposed ‘obstruction’ ban could impact performers, homeless on Strip bridges Las Vegas police are pushing for a county ordinance that would ban obstructions on Strip pedestrian bridges, but opponents say it would violate the First Amendment rights of street performers.
"The county is looking at adopting an ordinance that would update the definition of these pedestrian bridges to crosswalks. This means the beggars and buskers would not be allowed to stop on these bridges, and neither would tourists. People would have to continue walking just like they would when crossing the street."
Police call for changes to Las Vegas Strip pedestrian bridges Stabbings, robberies, narcotic sales and s*x crimes are some of the things Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said are happening on pedestrian bridges on the Strip.
"I will tell you, if this bill is passed today in its current iteration we’ll be prepared to file a lawsuit within the next two weeks. We would rather avoid that and try to work towards a resolution.” - Athar Haseebullah, ACLU Nevada
