November is Native American Heritage Month. When the Nuwu Pahsats (Southern Paiute for "People's Garden") opens at the Springs Preserve, guests can explore a variety of plants, demonstration gardens, and exhibits that delve into and honor indigenous lifeways of the native peoples of Southern Nevada.

As a living example of sustainable desert gardening, the Springs Preserve has experimented with low-water lawn alternatives for years. Some of the groundcovers we’ve had success with include Dwarf Carpet of Stars, micro-clover, creeping thyme, and dichondra. But our latest obsession is kurapia, which has proven to be drought-tolerant, fast establishing, and highly versatile. Joining us for the Nevada Day celebration? 🏜 Here's what you need to know before you arrive:
🔵 Free admission is for NV residents only. Bring your ID! Non-residents must purchase a general admission ticket for entry.
🔵 We expect a high volume attendance, so arrive early and allow extra time for parking and entry.
🔵 Our parking lots fill up quickly during special events. Note the signage at the entrance informing you if the on-site parking is full. Use overflow parking at Meadows Mall and use caution when crossing Valley View Blvd.
🔵 A full schedule of activities and event map will be available upon arrival.

Come dressed in your favorite Nevada-inspired outfit to show your Nevada Day spirit!💙We will have a full day of fun, educational activities that highlight the rich history and unique spirit of the Silver State.

🎨Education Room
9am–4pm: Explore hands-on learning and activities, including our education collection of artifacts and fossils.
1–3pm: Get crafty with local folk-artist Vanessa Maciel and create your own replica of the official Nevada state artifact, the Tule Duck Decoy.

📖Orientation Room
11am: Learn about how Las Vegas has changed over the years, as Maggie Gaspar offers insights from her book, "Past & Present: Las Vegas." Book signing to follow outside the Museum Store.

🤝Community partners will be joining us throughout the museum to highlight their work in preserving Nevada's natural and cultural history.

📣Explore the natural history of our great state by joining the Natural History Tour with Moonis Ghani at 2:45 pm. Tours start under the Columbian Mammoth.
