14 years ago, Grouchy John's Coffee started at First Friday Las Vegas under a canopy on a fold-out table with a tiny espresso machine and a 20 year-old Mr. Coffee maker.

WE LOVE POETRY

RIP JIM!

Today we remember one of the original & most beloved members of the Grouchy Nation, who passed a couple of years ago.

From pretty much the day we opened our coffeeshop, Jim was an everyday regular, greeting everyone with a friendly hello and engaging in long & cheerful conversations with whoever wanted to talk. He had a big heart and a wonderful gift of gab.

Before long, we stopped considering Jim as a customer and started thinking of him as family. In fact, due to our respect & affection for his stalwart loyalty & age, we stopped taking his money after just a couple of months. We were just proud to call him one of us.

We don’t know much about Jim’s personal life, but we did learn that he was an Army veteran, and that he & GJ himself served in the same unit (although their tours were separated by several decades), so besides being a friend to all, Jim was a proven patriot, as well.

Jim was also a great lover of sports betting, especially the horses. And he had a regular seat at the sports book in the South Point Casino.

We miss Jim dearly.
