The Moulin Rouge opened in 1955 and was the first racially integrated resort in Las Vegas. It was an immediate sensation, earning such nationwide fame that its dancers were featured on the cover of Life magazine less than a month after its opening. Beyond the stage, the Moulin Rouge was a catalyst for civil rights reform in Las Vegas.
In celebration of Black History Month, The Mob Museum has partnered with the Harrison House for a sold-out evening dedicated to the iconic Moulin Rouge and sponsored by the Stephen Lackey Philanthropic Trust and Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey. Harrison House was a boarding house that sheltered traveling entertainers such as Nat King Cole and Sammy Davis Jr. who were unable to stay at Las Vegas strip hotels due to segregation laws. Now a cultural center, Harrison House is dedicated to sharing the history of this house and the surrounding Historic Westside. Learn more about this event and its participants at https://bit.ly/3Ej3aZH.
