Screening of Stephen King's Dollar Baby Film "Luckey Quarter" at King Con Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV — Luckey Quarter, a film adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, will be featured at King Con Las Vegas from October 24–26, 2024. Directed and written by Robert Cochrane, PhD, with Jeremy A. Settles of Got Films serving as co-executive producer, the screening promises a unique cinematic experience for King fans and film enthusiasts alike.

Luckey Quarter was filmed in Boulder City and Joker’s Wild Casino in Henderson, NV, back in 2003. The film was produced as part of Stephen King’s famed Dollar Baby program, an initiative he started in 1977, allowing filmmakers to adapt one of his noncommercial stories for just one dollar. The program, which concluded in 2023, fostered the career of Frank Darabont, director of acclaimed films The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist.

“We are thrilled to present this film at King Con, which holds special meaning for both our team and the region,” says Robert Cochrane, who earned both his Master’s and PhD from UNLV. Cochrane recently published his first book, Acceptance: A Hero’s Journey through Parkinson’s and a PhD, and he now runs Yes, And...eXercise!, a nonprofit organization using Cinema Therapy to enhance the quality of life for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.

Cochrane’s innovative work through Yes, And...eXercise! incorporates films such as King’s The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and Stand by Me along with Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey to help participants explore, discover and share their own stories. Settles and Cochrane have worked together on numerous film projects. Settles has over 35 years in the film industry, with his production company providing crew, equipment and expertise to major networks, visiting Hollywood film companies, and Fortune 500 companies throughout the southern Nevada region..

Attendees of King Con will have the chance to engage with both Cochrane and Settles during the event, as they accompany the screening and participate in discussions surrounding the film and the broader Dollar Baby program.
