A magical experience that starts with an outstanding Four Course Dinner followed by a forty five minute concert of Close Up Magic.
There’s something magical about the Windy City. Not only is it a solidly industrious blue collar town, through the years it has also been the home of amazing innovations and creativity. So, it should come as no surprise to discover that Chicago produced a wonderfully distinct form of intimate magical entertainment. It is known as Chicago style magic, and it blossomed in some of the legendary water
ing holes of the “city of broad shoulders.” Cards, coins, dice, bottles, glasses, napkins, silverware and other items commonly found in bars and saloons are brought into play to create astonishing moments of sleight of hand magic. Though there have been many venues in that town that featured this kind of prestidigitation, this art form truly got its start and was perfected at a beloved family owned tavern called Schulien’s. In the 1920s Matt Schulien started doing card tricks in between serving up drinks, and before long the crowds started to flock to his place in order to laugh and gasp at his magical antics. Everyone that was anyone came to Schulien’s. The rich and the famous, mobsters and politicians, sports figures and average joes, tourists and locals all found themselves side by side with each other having the time of their lives at Schulien’s. Matt passed the tradition of his wonderful magic on to his sons and for almost a hundred years the name Schulien has been synonymous with great amazement and amusement. Some thirty years ago a young man named Danny Doyle had the unique experience of learning firsthand from members of the Schulien family the secrets that made their family’s dynasty of magic so extraordinary. For more than a decade he carried on this legerdemain tradition there at Schulien’s, and since that time has performed this great magic across the country and around the world. Now, Danny brings it all to Las Vegas. The evening starts off with the patrons enjoying a world class dinner of the finest food and drinks in a private dining room. After this, Danny joins them at the table and that is when the fun really begins as he launches into a powerful 45 minute performance of mystery and mirth that creates a heady and unforgettable experience for all that see it. Intimate spectacle flow from his fingers as he engages and involves everyone at the table with this private concert of wonder. What makes this so great for the participants is that it happens right in front of them, often right in their hands. But this show is more than just a bunch of tricks. Danny interweaves into his performance delightful personal and historical anecdotes about the world of Chicago style magic. Hilarious stories spill forth about the great quirky performers that plied their mystical trade in gin mills and beer gardens all around that toddlin’ town of Chicago. When Danny finishes his show, audiences are more than just entertained. They feel that they have spent an evening in a remarkable and timeless netherworld where anything can happen…and often does! There is no other theatrical experience to be found in Vegas quite like Danny Doyle: Intoxicating Magic.
