🌍 Not For Sale Thailand was our first project, inspired by the dedication of local artist and activist Kru Nam. Her tireless efforts to rescue exploited kids and support at-risk children in Northern Thailand led to the creation of Baan Kru Nam, a safe haven for over 150 children. Many of these children are stateless, hailing from Laos, Myanmar, and indigenous Hill Tribe communities. Thanks to Kru Nam's hard work, all the children are now enrolled in school, with access to a library, computer center, and opportunities like organic farming. In the past two years, we've seen a spike in labor trafficking in Myanmar and Laos. Organized crime syndicates have set up illegal "Call Centers" that have become hubs for sex trafficking and organ harvesting. Our outreach is more vital than ever. We're focusing on vocational training for parents and children and running a daily Rescue Center near the Thai-Myanmar border, where over 30 children walk hours each day for education and warm meals. Part two of Not For Sale's founding story. 🧡 After Dave met Kru Nam while doing research for his book, she reached out asking for help. She was supporting 53 kids in a tiny structure, until one day it burned down, leaving her and the children with nothing. Dave immediately pulled together $10,000 for supplies, food, medicine, shelter and whatever else they needed. He asked Kru Nam for her bank information so he could wire the money, but she didn't have a bank account. Determined to help, he enlisted Not For Sale co-founder Mark Wexler, to travel to Thailand and hand deliver $10,000 in cash. The conditions in Myanmar are so rough due to civil war that 24 children walk FOUR HOURS everyday to receive education and meals at our drop in center on the Thailand/Myanmar border. ⁠ 📖 We work with the Thai government to ensure the kids receive certificates to demonstrate their educational advancements at our site. ⁠ ⁠ We helped all of them retain passports so they can cross the border into Thailand from Myanmar. For over two decades, Not For Sale has supported Indigenous communities in Madre de Dios, a remote region in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. We learned firsthand how environmental degradation led to a total disruption of their historical way of living and connection to the land.
