Running series attracts growing number of kids to Latrobe park The nonprofit Healthy Kids Running Series is returning to Legion Keener Park in Latrobe for five weekly fall sessions, Sept. 15 through Oct. 13. Local enrollment in the national program has increased from about 50 to 60 boys and girls ages 2 to 14, according to community coordinator Ryan Thomas

The Challenger Division is new this season! 👟🎉

It is an adaptive 75-yard race for children with disabilities and/or special needs that caters to the intellectually and physically disabled athletes. Parents, siblings, and volunteers can run with participants to provide support.

We are SO excited to introduce a new program for our older runners 😁

This program is designed to celebrate and encourage our older runners who have shown consistency and determination while running mile after mile with HKRS.

We now have the MARATHON AWARD! Kids in grades 4th-8th will be able to count how many miles they have run at HKRS races and when they hit 26 miles they will be awarded a special medal, certificate, shirt, and trophy!!🥳

Runners are able to go back through the results archives and count any full mile race they have run with HKRS in the past, and all full mile races going forward.💚💙

Who's ready to make a split for the finish line?

The Robindale 5k Banana Run has participants touring through historic downtown Latrobe while burning those banana calories!

Racers can enter into the runner or walker category with prizes being awarded for the top male/female finishers overall and in each category by age bracket.

This year, we have added two kids runs. A 100 yard dash for the tiniest banana fans and a one mile for younger runners.

We are working with Healthy Kids Running Series to introduce running to kids in our community!

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to reintroduce myself for our new runners joining us this fall. My name is Ryan Thomas, and I am the Community Coordinator for HKRS Latrobe.

A few fun facts about me:

🏃 I grew up as a runner! I ran cross country and track in high school and college.
💙 I'm married to my wife, Cassie. You'll see her helping out the the finish line, cheering on the kids, and keeping track of the results.
👟 My older son, Evan, loves running with HKRS. This will be his sixth season. My younger son, Gabe, is eagerly waiting until he turns two years old so he can start running too.

I'm looking forward to a fantastic fall season! Be sure to get signed-up and keep an eye on our page as we get closer to race day. In the meantime, feel free to reach out if you need anything!
