The girls and their babies heading for greener pastures!

Spring babies!!
Spring babies are taking over the pasture!!

Thanks Megan Pollaro for sharing this with us! A fun way to use our delicious chip steak! Shabu shabu. In this case it’s basically our chip steak cooked quickly in a seasoned chicken broth and then dipped in flavorful sauces. But the video says it all!

Just twinning! Twin calves are a blessing, but can often be a challenge. Unfortunately, sometimes the mom doesn’t connect with both calves quickly enough, so one calf is orphaned. In this case Mike was able to bring the mom and twins back to the barn soon enough to keep the mom-baby connection strong for both calves!

Redbud has always been one of my favorite trees! Early pollinators are all over it…and it’s pastel pink color graces the spring countryside in much of southwestern and south central PA, West Virginia and western Maryland this time of year. We offer them in our Native plant nursery in potted seedlings and larger sizes. Our hours are Monday Wednesday and Friday 10-6 and Saturday 10-2.

The grass is starting to “green up!”Our cattle our fed strictly on grass in the spring, summer and fall and hay in winter. These ladies are due to calve any day now 🙂 Since we have calves born in both spring and fall seasons, our grass fed beef is available year round. We are taking orders now for the next round of custom sides coming up this month! Call us now at 724-423-1545 or message to get on our list!

Fresh Maple granola being baked by our own singing elf Melanie! Plus scones…Raspberry White Chocolate and Blueberry Chocolate Chip all hot out of the oven this morning! We’ll be open until 2 pm today! See you soon:)

This is how we do our grass fed angus beef!
Moving to new pasture!

Had a little visitor today in the native plant nursery enjoying a snack from our cardinal flowers!

Cow teamwork!
Working together to solve a common problem!

Playing in the snow…

When people ask what makes our beef different from other sources…. I could go on and on! But, for starters my brother Mike Costello is the cow guy. He often spends hours moving temporary fences around to give the cattle fresh grass. Our Black Angus- Hereford cattle are fed grass and hay from start to finish. To feed this way and keep them healthy and growing they need fresh grass and good quality hay all the time. This is a brief explanation of how he moves them around in temporary pastures.

Veggie bread is back! Hot out of the oven and made with our tomatoes, onions, carrots, zucchini and green peppers! Get your daily dose of healthy veggies in one slice!! If only I could record the yummy smell with this video!! Come grab your loaf! We’ll be here until 6 today:)

Busy bees! Monarda fistulosa or wild bergamot is a magnet for pollinators! A member of the mint family, it forms reasonable clumps and can handle dry soils.. (These are against our barn and can get drenched during a rain but then very dry for days…) It’s beautiful lavender- pink-purple flowers attract bumblebees, honey bees, hummingbird moths and on and on! Plant some in a corner of your yard and watch it buzz!

It’s that time of year again! Just a short view from the hot and dusty tractor!;)

Mama just realized she left one of her twinzies at the other end of the pasture! Everyone is a little excited.

A late Mother’s Day video for you! Mike brought this new mom into the barn to help her have her baby. The results are a happy, healthy mom and baby!

Lots of beautiful native perennials are ready to plant! Take a beautiful cloudy ride out and take the countryside! We are open today until three. Will be open again Monday Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 6. Happy Mother’s Day to all you mamas!!

Here is a spring update on our native plants!
