How happy we were to finally be able to welcome these awesome scholars from the classes of 2020 and 2021 to campus this weekend for a young alumni picnic. Great to be able to see everyone in person!
Just a handful of the spectacular contributions and performances at Saturday’s Arts Festival 🎭🎨🎹🎤🏺
Adding in some off-campus adventures! Last Thursday the Scholars enjoyed the Mütter Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art, took in the city and enjoyed a beautiful day exploring 🖼
The beautiful McPherson patio served as the perfect location to celebrate our annual Career Night and dinner last Wednesday evening. A special thanks to the 5 Board members (including one of our Class of 2021 Class Reps!) who came to speak with the Scholars. The value of an evening like this is immeasurable for the students, and a wonderful time was had by all!
NJSP relationships run deep and truly last a lifetime. Congratulations Benjamin and Ariel!
It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a week since move-in day! This year is off to a great start 📚
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
Congratulations to rising senior Hannah Wang on her acceptance to the 2022 New Jersey Scholars Program. This college-level five-week summer program will expand students' abilities by "approaching the summer’s topic from many different directions. The Scholars learn and live together, stimulating and supporting each other as they wrestle with the challenges posed by this new approach to learning.”
Each summer the Program investigates a specific area of study. Past programs have included Greece in the Age of Pericles, Russian Studies, the Middle Ages, and the 20th Century. The theme for 2022 is Into the Borderlands: Exploring the Spaces Between Big Ideas.
To be considered for the program, schools in New Jersey nominate students who then submit a written application and have an interview if called back as a finalist. Hannah shared that she is “truly honored” to be one of the 34 students selected for this program, which will take place at the Lawrenceville School this summer. “I'm extremely grateful to have been selected and I'm looking forward to spending the summer exploring novel concepts and meeting tons of new people!”
We cannot wait to welcome these scholars and the rest of the Class of 2022 this Sunday!

Our Story
Our missions is to provide New Jersey’s rising high school seniors of extraordinary demonstrated academic potential with a free, ungraded, diverse, inclusive, and residential interdisciplinary learning environment that sharpens critical thinking, writing, and research skills, stimulates a desire for life-long learning, and fosters lasting interpersonal connections.
Applicants write essays, submit a paper written for a class, a letter of recommendation and a transcript of their grades. If selected as a semifinalist, applicants are invited to participate in a group interview with NJSP. The Program selects thirty-nine Scholars from among the finalists.
The program creates an intense, interdisciplinary intellectual experience that will change students' lives by teaching them to think in a new way -- relating disciplines instead of dividing them. Scholars participate in lectures and small-group seminars where they actively engage with the disciplines. They also have extensive reading assignments, and pursue research at world class libraries and museums. They write essays and work closely with a faculty member to produce a 10-15 page interdisciplinary research paper. They are also stretched as they hone their creative talents in art, music, writing, drama and public speaking by contributing to an Arts Festival that is thematically related to the Program topic.
The Scholars do not receive grades and the faculty evaluates their work in an interactive fashion. As a result, the Scholars discover the love of learning for its own sake and gain confidence in their intellectual abilities. For many Scholars, the program awakens in them the awareness of their potential to achieve academic excellence and dramatically increases their ambitions for higher learning. There is no program comparable to the New Jersey Scholars Program.
The program topic usually runs for two years, the faculty have been drawn from colleges and universities including Columbia University, Columbia University School of Law, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Penn State University, Pratt Institute, Princeton University, Rhode Island School of Design, Rutgers University, The Sorbonne (Paris), The University of Bristol (UK), The University of Cape Town, The University of Illinois, The University of Jordan, The University of Pennsylvania, The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Vermont.
