My husband told me as I was forming Little Crown Bakery that I was the one who would get to decide the culture of my business. Not my customers,... Me.

I've worked hard to build values into my business, to be about community and relationship. It's about people, YOU, not just the bakes, definitely not about the money.

This Christmas I was gifted a few things from precious customers turned friends. The most interesting thing about what they gave me, is that they symbolized to them the culture that I have created.

I'm grateful that my friends and my clients know what's up. I'm here for YOU first and foremost. If you EVER need to come sit on my couch, just let me know. We laugh, we cry, we encourage. It's who we are.

I read once that if you're only in something for the money, you won't succeed. In light of that, we've worked to develop our WHY. Why are we in this community, with this opportunity, in this moment in time?

Now don't get me wrong. Money makes the world go 'round. In fact, LCB has donated thousands of dollars to local organizations that are near and dear to our hearts, and we hope to continue that trend.

We offer something fun for Lawton to do. And not just for fun, but we also teach skills that can be taken into our students' homes and used to make their family's special occasions better in the future.

We've provided employment opportunities for individuals who need flexibility that a traditional job cannot offer.

But what more can we do?

One thing that I have truly enjoyed is taking newer business owners under my wing and sharing what I've learned with them. Last year I had the pleasure of mentoring a few business owners (even another home baker), and provided them with not only encouragement and wisdom, but shared clientele and purchased tools for them that could help them grow. I always imagined how much of a difference it would have made to me if I would have had the same help from a local source when I was new. I love that I've gotten to see their businesses really take off from our help.

Discussions with a lot of other business owners has shown a recurring need for marketing help. So, I want to open that same help up to anyone that wants to put in some serious work. I've chatted with many of you that are ready to learn, so let's do it together!

Our first "Coffee & Cookies - Marketing Basics" sponsored by Little Crown Bakery will be hosted January 8th. You can have the best product in the world, but if no one knows about it, then it doesn't mean anything.
