This August, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible work of our Head Start programs! 🌟
Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness for children under 5 from low-income families by providing comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services. These programs ensure that children are ready to succeed in school and life.
To qualify for Head Start, families must meet income guidelines based on the federal poverty level. Other factors like homelessness, children in foster care, and families receiving public assistance (TANF or SSI) also qualify.

1 in 3 families in the U.S. struggles with diaper need. This issue is more than just a public health concern—it's a barrier to economic mobility for many families. In Utah, the Diaper Distribution and Research Project is making strides by distributing diapers and diapering supplies with the help of volunteers. Despite challenges like a 9.5% child poverty rate and sales tax on diapers, our community is coming together to support families and provide essential services.

🌟Agency Spotlight!🌟
This month we are spotlight our agency partner, Community Action Services and Food Bank. Based in Provo, CASFB serves Utah, Summit and Wasatch Counties. Always innovating on how they can best serve their community and fight local needs, CASFB recently launched a mobile food pantry to serve Summit County!
The mobile pantry is an upgrade from their previous pantry that was a single closet in a middle school. It allows community members experiencing food insecurity to shop like they were at a grocery store, instead of having to use what's been given to them.
Tom Hogan of CASFB is excited for community members to, "Get what your family eats and uses, no matter the mileage."
If you or someone you know could use these services, see where the pantry will be next here: https://bit.ly/3JBWDeW or on their social media!

History of Community Action
“Our aim is not to only relieve the symptoms of poverty, but to cure it and, above all, to prevent it.” - President Lyndon B. Johnson, 1964
In 1964 during the State of the Union Address, President Lyndon B. Johnson declared an “unconditional war on poverty.” The effort centered around different legislation, one being the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. Community Action Agencies are nonprofit private and public organizations established under the Economic Opportunity Act to fight America’s War on Poverty. Community Action Agencies work to address the needs in their communities and provide a wide range of services such as food and nutrition, job training, education, housing, and more. Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live.
Community Action Partnership of Utah (CAP Utah) is the statewide association for Utah’s nine Community Action Agencies. The Community Action network envisions an end to poverty in Utah. Our member agencies work toward this vision every day by providing services to low-income families and individuals across the state.
