The track of the moon's shadow across Earth's surface is called the path of totality. To experience the solar eclipse in totality, viewers must be within a 115 mile wide path. The number of people expected to travel to the path of totality is equivalent to 50 simultaneous Super Bowls across the nation, from Texas to Maine.

The path of totality begins in Texas and will travel through Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. According to NASA, small parts of Michigan and Tennessee will experience the total eclipse.
