Birdhouse made of English Walnut and Spalted White Oak
I’m sorry it’s been awhile.
Here is an amazing bowl. I love the color! I love the weight! I love the features and details in the grain! I absolutely love everything about this bowl (and that’s saying a lot for me.) This is a beautiful piece of mesquite wood, handcrafted into a 7 1/2” diameter bowl and prepared with multiple coats of Danish Oil. The bowl is accented with two thick bands around the outside of the bowl and topped with a prominent undercut brim.

I am in the process of making some handles for my cousin’s cast iron pan addiction. Here is one of them. I hope you like it Joseph Writer.
The new one is slightly larger. I think it’s going to be a nice complement to the pan. Maybe we will get to see it installed.
4 more to go!
Wow! It’s so amazing to see someone enjoying something I made. Happy anniversary Fishers! I’m so happy that you are enjoying this beautiful piece of Osage Orange. I’m so honored to have this piece displayed in your home.
So this just happened...
I made this today for my Queen of Hearts.
Short backstory: I’ve been wanting a lathe since birth. I bought my first lathe with the premise that my first big project would be a large bowl for my wife. Fast forward and FINALLY I did it!
The beauty of this bowl pales in comparison to that of my wife but I hope she loves it. The bowl is fabricated with her two favorite wood varieties, Black Walnut and Osage Orange and measures 12 3/4” in diameter.
Shhhh it’s a surprise!!!
Hey there 👋👋👋
Mrs Wood Craft again 😃
I had to share something......
Yesterday he decided to make a chess piece. Why? Well, because he can lol 😂
With each piece he creates I am more and more impressed by his natural talent 🥰
I’m not a chess player so I don’t know which piece this is, but his is on the left, made with ebony wood (one of my faves!!!) and the one on the right is from a chess set.
And let me tell you, his is waaaaay better!
Hi all! Mrs Wood Craft here......I have been wanting to share this for a while now but it keeps slipping my mind. Several months ago I had a Pampered Chef party and bought a set of wooden spoons (I love wooden spoons for cooking!) the one on the left is one from the set. I say to Mr Wood Craft “don’t they ever think about left handed people???” So what does he do......makes me one for left handers. We are both left handed 🥰🥰🥰
Here is funnel I made as a private joke and just to see if I could.
I did have some success in the workshop. Here is a large platter I’m working on.
So I was working on this vase and had a little mishap.
The top section broke off. Back to the drawing board...
Getting closer to adding the decals and retro gaming system!!!
Just so you know I didn’t completely disappear....
I’ve been busy and I’m drying wood for bowls and I’m working on a little side project too. This is my first attempt at a retro gaming console. I’m making the cabinet now.
More to come...
So, I don’t have any pictures of completed work from last evening but here are a few pictures of some crazy things we did. It was great to collaborate and come up with a couple crazy ideas. Typically I do my spoons on the lathe and then carve them but last night we came up with some alternative methods. I’ll post some of the spoons when they have been completed. Maybe Daniel Dennis can post that crazy Brazilian cherry spoon when he finishes it as well.
Preparing some spoon blanks for tonight’s powwow with some fellow craftsman. We are planning on doing a little carving. Maybe I’ll share some pictures of the progress later tonight.
I had a wrestling match this morning. I wrestled with the question of, “Do I keep this natural feature in this bowl or do I make it a bit more shallow?” The wood always wins and I’m glad I kept it in. I think this beautiful Cherry bowl is enhanced by the character of this natural occurrence. I also think it fits into my mission of revealing the natural beauty within the wood.
Hey, we are still here! I have a lot of bowl blanks I rough turned on the lathe and they need to dry.
Stay tuned!
Our first bowl packaged and ready to make its way to its new home ☺️
PSA about PPE
Wear it!
I always wear a face shield and leather apron when I’m working on the lathe.
This bowl split apart and a large shard flew off and pierced the insulation board on the ceiling.
It happens. Power tools are serious, take them seriously and don’t let your guard down.
Mrs. Wood Craft had another idea; so it’s my job to make it happen. I think this is going to be a beautiful charcuterie board. It has to dry so we will see how it turns out in time.
Here is a little peek into the workshop and the metamorphosis from log to bowl.
I think this is going to be an amazing Cherry bowl.
Wow look at this amazing grain in this Cherry log. I can’t wait to put it on the lathe. Maybe we will follow this one from log to roughed out bowl.
Here is something I’m working on for my cousin. He’s adding some new railings to his beautiful home with historic wood details. He wants to carry this through to his new railing. I’m making some of the detail pieces for him. Here is an example of one of the items.
More to come tomorrow...
