Set the standard on Day 1!
School bus drivers need to be very clear about expectations on the bus.
Start off with these points, and add more as necessary:
🤝 Treat your fellow students and the driver with kindness and respect. This creates a positive environment for everyone on the bus.
💺 Once students find their seats, they should stay seated for the entire ride. Moving around the bus while it’s in motion can be dangerous.
⚠️ Make sure the aisle is clear. Keep feet and backpacks out of the aisle for everyone's safety.
📢 Inside voices only. Loud noises and distractions can make it harder for the driver to focus on the road. Remember, safety comes first.

A school bus driver needs to be comfortable! 👇
💺Adjust the seat height: Set your seat height so that you have a clear view over the dashboard and can see the road, mirrors, and surroundings without straining your neck.
💺Adjust the distance to the pedals: Ensure your legs are not cramped or overextended. This helps reduce leg fatigue and allows for smooth and quick pedal operation.
💺Set the backrest angle: The backrest should be tilted at a slight angle (around 100-110 degrees) to support your lower back while maintaining an upright posture. Avoid reclining too far, as this can strain your back and reduce visibility.
💺Maintain proper posture in the seat: Sit up straight with your back firmly against the backrest. Avoid slouching or leaning to one side, as this can lead to back and neck pain.
💺Take regular stretch breaks: On longer routes or during breaks, take a few minutes to stretch and walk around. This helps reduce muscle tension, improves circulation, and prevents stiffness.
Taking a few minutes to adjust your seat and practice good posture can make a significant difference in your daily driving experience and long-term health.

Minimizing distractions on the school bus is crucial for ensuring the safety of everyone on board and on the road.
Here's how:
💺Have an established bus set-up: Before you begin your route, adjust your mirrors, seat, and controls to your comfort.
🚷 Establish and enforce clear rules for students: Set clear, consistent rules for behavior on the bus, such as staying seated, speaking at a low volume, and keeping hands and objects inside the bus.
🔕 Have a quiet zone: Establish a quiet zone around the driver's seat, where students understand that noise levels must be kept low, especially when the bus is moving.
💪Stay mentally and physically prepared: Start each shift well-rested, hydrated, and nourished. Fatigue, hunger, or dehydration can lead to distractions.
Your attention is your greatest tool for keeping everyone on board safe.
Stay focused, stay calm, and drive with confidence.

Maintaining a healthy diet is crucial for school bus drivers for sustaining energy levels, concentration, and overall well-being needed to perform your duties safely and effectively.
Here are some tips: 👇
🍊 Start with a nutritious breakfast: Breakfast is key to kickstarting your metabolism and providing energy for the day ahead.
🥜Pack some balanced snacks: Keep healthy snacks on hand to avoid the temptation of vending machines or fast food.
💧Stay hydrated: Dehydration can lead to fatigue and decreased concentration. Keep a water bottle with you and sip throughout the day.
☕Limit caffeine: Coffee and energy drinks are a great boost in the morning, but they can cause an energy crash in the afternoon or affect sleep patterns.

School bus drivers should always get a good night's rest.
Here's why:
🔹Maintaining alertness: Driving a school bus requires constant attention to the road, surroundings, and passengers.
🔹Enhancing decision making: Rested drivers are better equipped to make accurate and quick decisions, whether it's stopping for a child who darts into the street or navigating unexpected road conditions.
🔹Promoting calm driving: Fatigue can lead to irritability, stress, and frustration, making it harder to stay calm and patient, especially with the added responsibility of managing children on board.
🔹Improving reaction time: A well-rested body is better able to respond to sudden braking, sharp turns, or emergency maneuvers.
🔹Reducing health risks: Regular, restful sleep improves overall well-being, ensuring you’re physically and mentally prepared for each shift.
