Happy EMS week !!
Our condolences and prayers to his family and everyone who knew Dennis. As a fire police officer for many years, he was instrumental in keeping Fire and EMS safe while we did our jobs. Our entire Lawn EMS team will deeply miss his friendship and many years of dedication to our community!
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our brother and friend FP Dennis Barnes. Dennis was very active in the fire company, serving for 30 years as fire police officer and also as Fire Police Captain and volunteering countless hours landscaping and mowing the grass. Dennis was always willing to help no matter what. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to serve with him and know him. Rest easy Dennis, we’ll take it from here.

UPMC Pinnacle is reminding parents when it's safe to send sick kids back to school. This, after a local high school said a lot of students were returning too soon. To combat the problem, they sent a letter to parents, telling them teachers would be more lenient during this flu season.

Today is one of the busiest travel days of the year. Here are some holiday travel safety tips, courtesy of AAA.
-Ensure your vehicle is properly maintained. If maintenance is not up to date, have your car and tires inspected before you take a long drive.
-Map your route in advance and be prepared for busy roads during the most popular times of the year. If possible, consider leaving earlier or later to avoid heavy traffic.
-Keep anything of value in the trunk or covered storage area.
-If you’re traveling with children, remind them not to talk to strangers. Go with them on bathroom breaks and give them whistles to be used only if the family gets separated.
-Have roadside assistance contact information on hand, in case an incident occurs on the road.
-In case of an emergency, keep a cell phone and charger with you at all times. AAA and many other companies offer smartphone applications that enable motorists to request help without making a phone call.
Deep Fryer Fires | FDNY Smart
Deep-frying turkeys could be a recipe for a Thanksgiving tragedy. If you decide to use a turkey fryer, make sure to use the fryer outdoors and use the fryer a safe distance from flammable materials and other buildings. Do NOT use turkey fryers in a garage. NEVER let children near the fryer, even when it’s not in use, and NEVER leave the fryer unattended. Make sure the turkey is completely thawed, and do NOT overfill the fryer. Use safety goggles to protect your eyes and ALWAYS use pot holders or oven mitts when handling the fryer. Keep a fire extinguisher near the fryer. Do NOT use water to put out a grease fire.
