This was a pavilion I built for my family on our property!
Perfect for gathering around a fire in the cooler months and the perfect spot to find shade in the heat of summer!
Looking forward to making many memories here with friends and family.

The road we live on is a one truck road at best. I told the delivery truck driver that the road is like life. If you stay in the middle of the road, youāre good. If you start to veer to the right or left, thatās when things start to get hairy. Thankfully, this driver wasnāt distracted by the trees, deer, or even the danger on either side of him. He kept it straight and true. Word.
This guy. Got up on a roof to fix it at over 80 years old. Loved his church. Was always tinkering with his tractor. Would let four letter words fly if things werenāt going the right way. Loved him some good old southern gospel hymns and music. Smoked like a chimney. Loved his family (and especially his woman) with a passion that this generation doesnāt see too often. Wasnāt afraid of a damn thing! 12 foot alligators? Trespassers? The preacher? Cancer? The IRS?! This guy wasnāt scared of any of them. He wasnāt even scared of death itself. He was very opinionated about his faith and he lived it.
After my grandpa died, I think I began to see this guy as my grandpa. He was the closest thing I had to him anyways. My grandpa and this guy taught me SO much about working hard, the land, tractors and equipment, not being afraid to get your hands dirty, the list goes on. I didnāt mean to make him my substitute grandpa, it just kind of happened. I have enjoyed living down here on the river and seeing him ride around on the tractor just about everyday. Iāve enjoyed the time weāve spent together working on the tractors and just talking in the shade on those real hot days. Heck, Iāve even enjoyed pulling him out of the mud and helping him find his hearing aids!
I will miss hearing the tractor coming down the road with him on it. I will miss not having something to laugh about with all the tractor mishaps. I will definitely miss this guy. He was as much a part of this land that I now live on as the dirt itself. This guy ran his race well. He left behind a beautiful family and a strong legacy. His memory lives on through them.
So, until we meet again, hereās to this guy, the man, the myth, the legend: Uncle Frank!
In this kitchen, we took out all the outdated wood paneling and replaced it with shiplap instead of drywall. BUT before we did that, we found that most of the insulation had been eaten away at by bugs for many years. We removed all the old insulation and replaced it with new, cleaning out all the stud bays as we went. They have peace of mind knowing that everything in the walls is just as clean as the outside. Other upgrades include:
New cabinets
New countertops
Removing a light
Adding pendants over the peninsula
A farmhouse sink
New LVP Flooring throughout
Layered crown moulding
More outlets in key locations to accommodate cooking and guests
This was a lot of work, but everything came together really nicely and they are now ready for the holiday season with friends and family!
Just finished up this kitchen today! Iām still waiting on countertops for another kitchen (the one with the birds the cage on the tile). Here is the finished product with some progress pics in there too.
A repost of a past project. Itās been about a year now and everything is wearing in nicely! I just finished up a kitchen for the same customer. Iāll post on that next!
Today, I consider myself lucky. Meet Mr Copperhead. I say Iām lucky because he decided not to give me a kiss on the cheek! Sometimes I pick up old bottles in the woods behind our house. This bottle was half buried and when I picked it up, I looked down the opening and immediately saw the āHershey kissesā on his side. My body knew that there was danger close by and the bottle was already falling before I realized what was going on.
Definitely had to show this one to the kids. (Inside the jar of course!) š
Another important thing we try to teach our kids is snake identification. Itās a necessary skill to have living where we live. Other than rattlesnakes, weāve found that other snakes can be difficult to tell apart for young minds. We have other venomous snakes around that donāt rattle so we teach our kids to run away and to come tell us when they see them (mostly because we like seeing them but also to teach them which snakes not to mess with and why). Well something cool happened today. The kids were playing in the yard and cypress saw something fall from the trees. Being curious, he went to investigate and saw this gray rat snake eating a squirrel! They all did exactly what we had taught them to do. They came and told mama that āthereās a snake and heās eating something and we runded away!ā Iām so proud of them for listening and taking it to heart because we have too many run-ins with venomous snakes around here. We typically let all snakes live, except for the venomous ones that get too close. We have three active gopher tortoise holes no more than 50 yards from the front door and rattlesnakes like this one love the holes they dig! This rattlesnake came around about a year ago and obviously he was too close for comfort. Heās chilling in the freezer now waiting to be eaten!
We opened the entire space up today. We were planning on a seamless transition on the ceiling between the kitchen and the dining room but when we got in the attic, we found that this wall was unfortunately bearing the weight of the kitchen ceiling. A small bump in the road but we tackled it and weāre still reaching the overall goal of the project: to make the space feel bigger so that they can have people over!
Time to bring this kitchen into the 21st century. We used a Zipwall system to help minimize the dust traveling throughout the house in this one. The customers are living In the house while itās being remodeled. They have two babies roaming around so air quality is a high priority on this one. It also reduces the amount we have to clean up later! Win-win
An accent wall and new light fixture for a friends nursery. This turned out SO good! The color is perfect, the name and the light fixture are perfect, everything hit just right! Thank you and for letting me do this! Little James is already so loved.
Another customer ready for summer! The pergola itself is pretty enough. But my favorite pic is the 5th one. The posts almost seem to be sitting on the pavers but they are buried 24ā with concrete around the post for added strength. I cut the brick pavers to fit around the post (which is something Iāve never done) and it turned out awesome! Itās a really simple detail but the extra time it took to do that made a big difference for me! Itās the little things sometimes...
Things have to get ugly before they can get pretty again. If youāve ever been involved in a remodel, either doing it yourself or living through one, you might remember the shear amount of dust that seems to get everywhere! This is especially the case where tile is being taken up. This little homemade air filter makes a HUGE difference is air quality. And itās super easy to throw together really quick. Iām sure some people are doing this, but if your contractor isnāt filtering the air during your remodel, show them this. Everybody will be much happier in the end!
Quick tile job with some left over marble tile. Notice the difference between the first and second picture? Another two minutes per piece of tile that I had to cut made a huge difference. Maybe no one would even notice, but I bet you will be looking for this detail the next time you see tile laid like this! Also had a chance to do a really pretty backsplash behind the washer and dryer with some leaf patterned calacatta marble. I havenāt grouted it yet but itās still nice to look at even before itās grouted.
