Construction of a New Public Space to Begin on East Parcel of Mervin Jackson Park

Leesburg, VA (August 7, 2024) – Construction of a new park amenity will soon begin on the east parcel of Mervin Jackson Park, located east of the Loudoun Street entrance into the Town Hall Parking Garage.

The project will transform the undeveloped space into a public gathering space that will include a brick patio, a surrounding seat wall with lighting, and a lighted pavilion-like structure to house the Town’s much anticipated community piano.

The Commission on Public Art (COPA) proposed the idea of a community piano during a Town Council meeting in November 2023. Once the entire project is complete, the donated piano will be available for all to play and enjoy. In addition, a “Call to Artists” will be issued so the piano can be painted, adding a visual art element to the park.

In addition, the Town will be incorporating the existing trees into the design of the park with the exception of one tree that will be transplanted. The pet waste station will be relocated to the west parcel of the park on the other side of the parking garage entrance.

Due to the construction, there may be brief, intermittent sidewalk and street closures. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of September. The Town appreciates your patience during this period.

This transformation is a part of the Town Hall Master Plan, adopted in August 2018, to plan for long term future enhancements and redevelopment of the Town Hall campus. For more information regarding this project, contact Construction Project Manager Rizwan Ishaq at [email protected].
