Time to get Behind the Visor! This week we are introducing you to the 2024 SIR A-Class Champion, August Skinner! August was in a motocross accident at 15 which left him paralyzed from the chest down. Determined to not let that stop him, he hopped in a micro with hand controls 3 years later. Now he's ready to show the world what he can do! Read more about him below 👇
Driver: August Skinner
Nickname: "Wheels"
Birthday: July 27 (19)
Hometown: West Frankfort, Illinois
Racing Since: 2023
Home Track: Southern Illinois Raceway
Favorite Track? Southern Illinois Raceway
Why 600s? Couldn’t stand not being in the dirt any longer! I was taken to a micro race after I was paralyzed and I was hooked! Shortly after we had purchased a used hyper and set up hand controls.
How did you get involved in racing? My parents started me out on a jr dragster when I was young, but I had always dreamed of racing dirt bikes. When I was 14 they had finally let me get a dirt bike and then my motocross racing started there. But came to an end shortly after when I was 15 having an accident leaving me paralyzed from the chest down. We then set me up with hand controls in a micro and there I went!
What’s your favorite race of the year? The Terry Sprague Memorial race at SIR.
When you’re not racing, what are you doing? In the shop working on the racecars or building motors.
Ultimate Racing Goal? I’d love to end up racing midgets or race with the World of Outlaws!

Thank you Greyson Springer Racing for the awesome best looking car award from the Coles County KKM race! We couldn't be more honored.
If you need any great design work done for t-shirts, websites, posters, banners, etc, Shawn Springer is your man!
Ashen Glazier wins the prelim from 6th and the big final Halloween Bash at Coles County Speedway this weekend in Michael Carber's brand new Hyper Racing Junior Sprint!
When asked how he liked the Hyper Racing Junior Sprint compared to his other car, Ashen said "I don't even have to turn the wheel!"
Thanks for making it look good Ashen!
Cash "Money" Lacombe wins the 40 lap wingless restrictor KKM race at Port City OK! Feeding his Metric Cycles GSXR, is our new EVO restrictor injection. Both Brady and EVO's dyno saw a 5 HP increase with the new system.
Cash has come a long way in the last year having not qualified last year at this race. Teaming up with F&M Performance and switching to his Hyper Racing Chassis.
Congratulations to the whole team! Well done. &MPerformance Kash Lacombe
Keep the U6SA from preventing the 600 class from evolving. From Mike Dicely.
By nature, people are afraid of change. But change is how we get better, how we move forward. It's not always good, but for the case of the two ECU's (PE3-8400 and the Fuel Tech FT550) that are currently slated to be added to the rules by 5 of the 14 U6SA tracks, it is a good change. These tracks simply want to run the 600 Speedweek rules. Not nearly as extreme as Greenwood Valley going full outlaw, anything goes rules.
The rule has been proposed twice to the voting members of the U6SA and has failed to generate the 66% majority needed to pass. This is despite no valid argument at the meeting as to why the two ECUs should not be added. It failed, in part because:
1. Many have the attitude of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it.", the class is doing great, I don't want change.
2. Most of the voting members do not fully understand the ECU's well enough to allow the rule to pass in fear that some unforeseen problem will surface down the road.
3. Several of the members want to do the exact opposite of what Hyper Racing does just because they simply want to see us fail. This is fact, I have proof.
The rule will never pass due to these inherent problems with how the U6SA is set up. Although I did not start the ball rolling on this change with the tracks, I likely have the influence to stop it. After very thoughtful consideration, I have not because of the reasons listed above.
I am open to hearing reasons why the two ECU's should not be allowed. I cannot think of any. Please read my list of misconceptions about the two ECU's being allowed first.
1. They DO NOT increase Horsepower and are not performance enhancing in any way.
2. They DO NOT cost more when purchasing a full electronics system with data. In fact they will save money over time as you do not need to pay a tuner to flash the ECU. Tuners will be losing money from this rule. They also can be used on any engine platform, no need to purchase new. Not nearly as much need to dyno tune. Data tuning can be better in some ways. Saves money.
3. The two ECU's ARE NOT easier to change the rev limit. It DOES NOT make cheating easier. It takes 5 seconds to change your stock ECU to a cheater box. Switches to change RPM's are illegal on all systems. All maps inside the ECU must be stock.
4. Tech is easier with these two ECU's and more accurate. As you can simply download the map to view all rev limits in the ECU. You can also download the data from the last race to see what RPMs the engine was turning. Easy and accurate.
5. You DO NOT need to purchase one of these ECU's, they will not make you faster. We allow the two ECU's for 600 speedweek and stock ECU's won all but one of the races. Greyson Springer won Airport on an A Class engine with PE3-8400.He traveled from IN to race with us.
The advantages of these ECU's.
1. Diagnostics are immensely better. Problems can be found in minutes rather than several race or having to go to the dyno to get it fixed.
2. Data tuning is very easy and free. Email your data to your tuner and they can adjust your tune and email back for you to upload. This, in some ways, is better than a dyno tune. EVO does not charge for this service. In fact, it is very fun to do and we can teach you how to do it.
3. It allows racers from outside the area to run with us. Lanco's $15K (thank you East Coast Transponders!) to win race currently is U6SA rules only.
The 5 tracks who allow these two ECU's will lose their voting rights at the next U6SA meeting because they will not follow U6SA rules completely. If other tracks follow, they also will not be allowed to vote.
We are left with either changing the U6SA by-laws, allowing the two proposed ECU's, or no more U6SA and just follow 600 Speedweek rules.
Some will say this is Mike Dicely crying because he didn't get his way at the last meeting. In a way, they are right. I am crying because the class isn't moving forward. This is about the future of the class, about allowing better and cheaper support for our customers, and about less problems with racers' ignition & injection systems at the track.
It's not about Hyper Racing making more money. Our sales of ignition systems are a very very small part of our revenue. However, growing the class over time is why Hyper Racing is where we are today.
I don't ever see this rule passing the U6SA the way the U6SA is currently structured. This is why I have elected to not step in and stop the ball from rolling.
Taking some reel at The Signal Factory in Tulsa OK with our friend Kyle! Look for the final product on Flo during the Tulsa Shootout.
