Just gonna toot this horn for a minute because yesterday on completely separate occasions/locations, 2 people told me they had given/were giving this book to a man to read, which is an incredible idea, especially for those with daughters or menstruating women in their lives ❤️ (check the comments if you want it)

I love today - I love scrolling my facebook feed seeing pictures of all my friends kids, and I love it that people who have been running pell-mell through summer take a breath and get back in the clinic if they need to (if you think I'm talking to you, I probably am). Happy back to school day!

Harmonizing Health: Acupuncture for Late Summer Imbalances

Late summer brings warmth and transformation, but it can also bring about imbalances in our well-being. In Chinese Medicine, this season corresponds to the Fire element and can lead to what’s known as summer damp-heat – an internal disharmony similar to excess heat and humidity in modern terms.

Acupuncture, a traditional practice gaining modern recognition, offers a holistic way to address these imbalances. By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture helps restore balance by promoting smooth energy flow and revitalizing bodily systems.

In today’s understanding, acupuncture’s effects align with modern insights. It triggers the release of natural pain-relievers and promotes relaxation, much like physical therapy. Additionally, it supports healthy blood flow, akin to the benefits of cardiovascular exercise.

As we enjoy the late summer’s warmth, it’s vital to prioritize our well-being. Embracing acupuncture as a natural therapy merges ancient wisdom with modern wellness. By recognizing the shared goal of balance, we can transition smoothly through the seasons, nurturing our health with time-tested practices.

"This brings us to the final stage, and the opening stage...after being eaten apart and disassembled, after we have split open and emptied, after we have given back everything that remains: we return to the beginning. We make way for nervous, hungry roots...We open to newness, and we begin again."

(Interesting perspective)

When emotions rot, they compost and transform into something new | Psyche Ideas A self that fractures through loss or grief marks a psychological shift, beginning a cycle of regrowth through decomposition

This is a sentimental post.

Today two mothers called in to make appointments for their adult children and it suddenly struck me - as also a mother, I suppose - what an incredible honor it is to be entrusted with not only the care of an individual, which is a really big deal by itself, but also that of your coworkers, your friends, your family, your children.

I kind of always know it in the back of my mind, but today it really hit home. I am full of awe and gratitude.

Thank you so much.

❤️

I couldn't help but notice the haze in downtown Lexington on my way in today! If you are developing lung symptoms or want a tune up, come on in. In the mean time, apples and pears* are a great way to help nourish your lungs, even better if you cook them - core, chop and simmer (about 15 minutes the apple/pear in enough water to cover it, eat the fruit/drink the liquid that it yields.

*and astragalus and radishes and fennel, onions and leeks and mustard greens and ginger...

Questions and Concerns About Menopause 06/23/2023

For my next trick, I will be writing a book about menopause. I'd like to make it as helpful as possible - if you have questions/concerns you'd like to see addressed you can let me know via this form which is just an open response question, does not collect emails, and is anonymous (but if you want to mention who you are you can do that too!) -Arwen https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfQqJciuddnnOQPhrk1HdMRPy6b0IxCidPYhhQzjH6TPs0ovQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

Questions and Concerns About Menopause This is to help me write a book that is clear, conversational, informational but not overwhelming around the topic of menopause. I want it to be as helpful as possible. Thank you!!

I have a vague memory of hearing about a mysterious visitor when I was a little girl - Aunt Flo, they called her, and she was coming.

How strange, I thought, that I have never heard of this person. When will she get here?

I did not realize until well into adulthood that this mysterious family member was not "Aunt Flo" so much as "Aunt Flow" aka...menstruation.

Period. Menstrual cycle. Moon. Me**es. That time of the month. Call it what you will - I wrote a book about it.

It's for those who want to read about their body in plain language with no pictures, or use for their daughters or loved ones as their own visit from Aunt Flo approaches. It's available in digital and now paperback form as well.

I tried to write the book I would have wanted to read growing up and hope that you will find it to be a useful resource as well.

You'll find it in the comments below.

Hi! This is Arwen, and I wrote a book.

No pictures, plain language, and with the hope that it will help those expecting their first period as well as be of interest to those who already have started.

I have this wild idea that the more we understand about our bodies and ourselves, the better off we'll be

Happy almost-weekend! If allergies are aggravating you this time of year, (and even if they're not) it's a good time to nourish your lungs. One way to do that is with pears - a lovely person shared this with me at the clinic today and, rumour has it, it's delicious 👀

Your belly is cold!!

At least, there's a really good chance it is. This is Arwen. This week there were a lot of cold bellies in the clinic so I thought I'd do a little PSA here.

I'm not going to get too technical but

Cold = slow movement
slow movement in the body = problems

So if you check in with yourself at any point and realize your belly is cold (particularly above, below, beside the navel), it's a good idea to warm it up.

This can be done with an external heating source such as a hot water bottle or a heat lamp, or internally - stay away from iced/frozen drinks, raw vegetables/cold fruit, and go easy on the dairy.

I do realize what season this is and I hear you - you gotta live.

If you want to do *something* to help yourself, then now is the time for ginger tea, every day, you are welcome.

And of course if you need to come in for acupuncture/herbs/both and more, we're here.

To your health!
