Last night Jessica Whitehead from the Kentucky Derby Museum gave a fascinating talk about the life of jockey, Jimmy Winkfield.. Be sure to come for next month's History to Chew on featuring Eric Brooks. Eric, the curator at Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate, will be discussing life at Ashland from the perspective of African Americans enslaved and employed at the estate. Don't forget to come out tomorrow night for the second in our History to Chew On series! We will be learning about William McConnell ( does that last name sound familiar?) from speaker, Shea Brown. Come early to get a seat. We have picnic tables outside if you want to come early to eat, and room permitting, will have a couple of tables set up inside. The speaker will start at 6:00. The event is FREE !

McConnell Springs is the home of the Lexington Woodcarvers Guild. Whether you are an experienced carver or a beginner, you are welcome to join us on Saturday mornings, at 10am. We have the tools for you to get a project started. Hope you will come by! There is no cost to join in.
Join us for History to Chew on as we explore the life and legacy of frontiersman, William McConnell, through the eyes of the Digital Access Project (DAP) by focusing on his economic opportunity as one of the early pioneers to settle in Fayette County, Lexington, Kentucky in the late 1700s.
Mr. Shea Brown is a Special Projects Deputy in the Land Records Department at the Fayette County Clerk’s Office Land Records Department.

Our first "History to Chew On" evening will be June 11th! The speaker starts at 6:00 p.m. and the event is free.
Tressa Brown received her B.A. in biology and anthropology at Transylvania University and her M.A. in anthropology and museum studies from Arizona State University. She is currently the coordinator for the Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission, the Kentucky African American Heritage Commission and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission. She has worked for the past 35 years providing Native American educational programming for schools and the public.
Her primary focus has been to identify the stereotypes and myths about Native Americans in general and Kentucky’s Native people in particular. Her position at KHC is to provide accurate information to educators and the public about Kentucky’s American Indian history, the diversity of Native cultures as well as the issues affecting Native people in contemporary society.
