Kindergarten Farm Days - Day 2!

We got to see some of our friends unexpectedly due to school cancelations. And while we were sad they didn’t get to experience Kindergarten today, we were thrilled to have them on The FARM!

We had to spend the day inside and under cover but we learned all about where rain comes from, lots of information about different kinds of seeds, TONS of crafts, LOTS of games, and dancing and sing-a-longs AND we learned that PUMPKINS 🎃are fruit! 🤯

Speaking of pumpkins….did you hear about our Pumpkin Camp on October 11th? Registration is now open & we can’t wait to check in with many of our campers to see how their years are going.

Sign up link: https://thefarm1780.com/event/pumpkin-camp-at-the-farm-1780/

And tomorrow is our last K Farm Day! Can’t wait!!

Photos from THE FARM 1780's post 08/07/2024

🤩 We had so much fun today with our Kindergarteners at Kindergarten Farm Day!

🌀 Hurricane Debby didn’t stop us from learning all about seeds, corn, worms, soil, chickens & more! We also practiced our listening skills, walking quietly in lines, and ways our teachers at school will help us grow & learn so much this year!

We look forward to seeing some of our friends tomorrow and Friday! We do have a few remaining spaces & if you would like to add your Kindergartener please call us at 803-356-4978 by 5:00 pm the day before to register.

Farm Days will take place rain ☔️ or ☀️… we move inside of the farmhouse as needed.

Most of you likely have Back to School on the mind. Just like a new school year, August is the beginning of a fresh start on The FARM. We’re transitioning between summer and fall crops and the fruit of the south is ripening up - Muscadine season is here! 🍇

We will open for u-pick Friday August 30th and Saturday August 31st - mark your calendars!

Never heard of muscadines? Don’t worry- McKenzie hadn’t either before she moved to the south. But she agrees with NPR, “muscadines may be the best grapes you’ve never tasted”.

The FARM 1780 grows multiple kinds of grapes - some good for winemaking others meant for jelly’s, jams and preserving.

Our personal favorite is the southeast’s #1 best selling variety for FRESH EATING- Supreme - it is the highest quality muscadine available and everyone who tries it loves it. It will become a staple in your kiddo’s lunch boxes this year.

So, now you know - muscadines aren’t just about sweet tasting wine! 🍷

We will also have u-pick zinnias & eucalyptus and tomatoes. As the fall season progresses we’ll have more flower u-pick availability including the return of Sunflowers! 🌻 And then, of course pumpkins 🎃 at Lexington County’s only locally grown pumpkin patch!

There are no parking fees on 8/30 and 8/31. The FARMstand play area & bar will also be open.

All the details including pricing, hours & FAQS can be found on our website: https://thefarm1780.com/events

Who’s ready for it? We’d love it if you’d tag a friend or share with some folls you want to bring out to this fall! 🍁

☀️ We completed our 2nd week of FARMcamp yesterday ☀️We have one more session this summer 🌻

FARMcamp is about so much more than farming.

It’s about friendships.
It’s about appreciation.
It’s about new experiences.
It’s about encouragement.
It’s about seeing life through a child’s eyes.

And most importantly, it’s about the future.

We created FARMcamp to help teach the youngest generation the value of local food, unique land, and show them the importance of sustainable farming and conservation.

We’ve had campers come back session after session & for a 2nd year. And I think we’ve accomplished our goal. But these kids have taught us a lot too! They’ve helped us slow down a bit and enjoy what we sometimes find ourselves taking for granted. They filled our cups just as much as we hope we filled theirs.

Happy Summer! 🌞🕶️

We look forward to welcoming our 6s & 7s in a few weeks!

06/24/2024

It’s time for a shout out to It’s an incredibly busy time on the farm and this guy hasn’t had a day off in months. Y’all it takes SO much work to grow food for the community. Being a farmer is not for the faint of heart. I am continually amazed at how hard he works but more so at how much he cares. Most of you see (and taste) the finished products. But I have the distinct honor of seeing behind the scenes. There is so much planning, research (and sometimes agonizing) that goes into growing tasty, healthy food in a sustainable and ethical manner. So as we kickoff this Monday (and another round of summer camp ☀️), I wanted to pause and brag for a minute. Please join me in a round if applause 👏 for the farmer.

And if you haven’t checked out ways to connect or recently be sure to check out what’s happening & come enjoy this amazing food!

Have an awesome week! - McKenzie

Alright Lexington - we have to make some changes to our u-pick plans. You showed up this last week and we are EXTREMELY thankful that you all choose to support local.

U-Pick is an agricultural product that is very much dependent on a variety of factors. And once berries are picked, the plants need time to produce more berries and ensure their continued health for years to come.

As a small, family farm we need to limit the volume of people who are going to be picking at any one time. (We sold out of berries in the first hour last weekend) So, for the immediate future all u-pick will be available ONLY to members and for private events/field trips.

As the season progresses, we’ll revisit opening u-pick to non-members but we cannot make any guarantees right now.

There are only 35 memberships for the season left. You can snag one here: https://noble-hall-700.myflodesk.com/dp9wjvpdq0

You can learn more about booking a group trip here: https://thefarm1780.com/education/field-trips-for-schools/

Children’s Birthday Parties can be booked here: https://thefarm1780.com/birthdays/

The FARM is open to everyone, not just members. But u-pick will only be available with valid membership cards.

This Saturday from 10am - 5pm is our Spring Festival and there will be a ton of fun on the farm. The FARMstand will be opened and stocked with fresh veggies, we-picked berries, flowers and other goodies. LOTS of vendors, fresh food, live music, barnyard bounce house, facepainting & more!! Advanced parking is $25 per vehicle. Day of parking is $30 (and remember, members get in free and you can share your guest passes for free entry as well!)

Photos from THE FARM 1780's post 05/18/2024

Since we couldn’t kick the growing season off at our own farm today, we decided to head over to & support some other local farms & vendors.

We were racing to fit it in before nap time so didn’t get to stop & visit with everyone. But we enjoyed meeting new friends & seeing some of our favorites.

The market is open every Saturday (except for 4th of July weekend) - so go and then come see us after!

We’ll be open next Saturday 5/25!!

Happy weekend 🥙

05/17/2024

In case you missed Wednesday's announcement - our Spring Festival has been rescheduled to Saturday June 1st!

Same fun - different day!

The good news? Our u-pick should be in full swing by this date so you may even be able to pick blackberries, blueberries & flowers.

You can still purchase advanced parking tickets here: https://thefarm1780.com/event/2023-spring-festival/ -tickets__tickets-form

On Saturday, 5/25 we will be open with NO ADMISSION charge. We expect to have u-pick and we-picked berries and flowers along with select produce for purchase - stay tuned for more information.

Stay dry this weekend, friends!
- Brett & McKenzie

A well-deserved honor for Brandon with American Forest Management, Inc.! Brandon has been a part of The FARM since day one. In 2018, we received a grant to put together a plan for the property we had inherited on Corley Mill Rd in Lexington. Records showed us that the property had been a working farm since the 1860s & we had a vision for the business but we weren’t exactly sure how to put all of the pieces together. And that’s when we met Brandon. Brandon worked tirelessly to develop a 10-year plan for our 36-acres. He embraced our vision for the business and worked with us to build something unique for the Lexington community.

When we hit road bumps with county and state officials, Brandon went to bat for us. He helped us push through and took on a lot of the red tape. The fact that this farm property exists and wasn’t sold to a developer is in large part due to Brandon’s belief in us personally and professionally.

When you visit The FARM today most of the spaces that you see - u-pick berry fields, muscadines, figs, seasonal fields, The FARMstand location, the native longleaf pine project…all of that is the product of Brandon’s vision for the land.

Please join us in passing along a big round of applause for his hard work & achievement! 🥇

We are so excited to announce that Brandon DuRant, Farmland Services Manager in Sumter, SC, has been awarded the Accredited Farm Manager (AFM) designation from the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers® (ASFMRA®)! DuRant earned the AFM designation by meeting stringent experience and education requirements, passing a rigorous written examination, and abiding by the American Society's Code of Ethics. He joins a select 43% of the ASFMRA membership who have received the Accredited status and currently maintain it through the ASFMRA continuing education program. Congratulations, Brandon! We are so proud of you!

Hey 👋 fellow moms & dads. We’re racing into summer & we all love our kids BUT if you’re anything like us…trying to figure out how to entertain them during the summer months is a wee bit stressful.

Don’t worry - we’ve got you covered at The FARM!

🚜 SUMMER ON THE FARM (for kids) 🚜

By popular demand, we have opened up the age range for our first summer camp session June 3rd - June 6th. This is now available for ages 8 and up. Activities are different than other weeks so if you are looking for multiple weeks of summer camp, your child will have different experiences between session 1 and session 2.

Session 2 is still for ages 8 & 9. But, as we tell all parents, you know your kids better than us. So if they are a little older or a little younger & you feel they would do well with this group, you are welcome to sign them up.

The last session for Ages 6 & 7 is FULL. You can join the waitlist or consider a different session.

Tap “Summer Camps 2024” at link in bio.

Looking ahead to August:

👩 Mom’s Morning on The FARM - offered every Friday in August. Offered for ages 2 through Rising Kindergartners. Drop-in rates available. See stories or link in bio.

📚Kindergarteners in Lexington School District One will start on a staggered start. We are offering Kindergarten farm days on August 7th, 8th and 9th. See stories or link in bio.

🫐We are offering group trip days in June & July. Only a few dates remain. If you are a preschool, camp, homeschool group, or simply want to get a group of friends together - check out those details at the field trip link in our bio. Also check the stories.

Alright friends…happy Friday! Stay cool out there 😎
