Montana never disappoints!

A cold day at home calls for remembering a warm evening elsewhere!

2023 was a year I wasn’t able to get out and shoot as frequently as I like. I have otosclerosis which is a condition that hurts my hearing and I had surgery on each ear during 2023. Recovery from those procedures, among other things, contributed to fewer times out shooting. With that, I’m truly thankful for the opportunities I had to get out and enjoy the beauty of creation and look forward to a great 2024. Enjoy these highlights from 2023!

I usually intentionally avoid man made items in my landscape photography, aside from an occasional farm fence or a pier over water. However, sometimes an idea presents itself to change my mind. Also, over the last 8+ years, Lucille has been a wonderful adventure companion, getting me places, and even out of some, that otherwise wouldn’t have been possible…not to mention tons of fun along the way! On the east side of The Big Island, Hawaii. As I was looking for the right spot to compose my sunrise shot a calm collection of water in a a small tide pool caught my eye. I ventured up the rocky mound to set my tripod up to capture the morning reflection in the tide pool. Just as I got set up, the remnants of a wave erupted over the edge of the rock and I knew the disrupted movement could create a great foreground interest in the previously motionless tide pool. Barely having time to change my settings for a longer exposure, I hit the shutter button. This was the solitary image that resulted as it was the only time a wave came high enough. The tide pool shots were nice, but this one was my keeper. Sometimes we’re blessed with the unexpected, but may need to adjust our approach to fully see the beauty.

Dunloup Creek Falls near Oak Hill and Beckley, WV. Part of New River Gorge National Park! A beautiful high volume falls with plenty of rocks to play around the composition.

This late afternoon light hitting the mountain over Bridal Veil Falls was simply mesmerizing. One of those moments that you wish you could hit the pause button on and breathe in The Spirit more!

Valley View is always amazing, especially following a storm.

From the time we could see Rainier. It got socked in by clouds the rest of our time there. A grand mountain that I’m thankful we got to see!

Autumn Remembrance

As day became evening…so it was as our trip to Glacier came to an end. We were treated with a beautiful sunset over Lake McDonald for our last memorable night in GNP! Until next time…

While everyone else has stopped to view and photograph a bear up on the hill, this scene caught my attention! Just loved the contrasting colors in this late afternoon scene!
