Forward Farm

After courting multiple local vendors, the farm elected earlier this week to exclusively purchase hard grain rations from Excel Equine in Louisville.
Excel is descended from one of Kentucky’s oldest feed suppliers. Since the 1860s, Kentucky has been supplied by Excel’s predecessors. Excel is the result of a 2014 merger and the result is, in my opinion, the top equine feed company: they have one of the largest, if not the largest, selections of product on the market for horses of any body type and activity level. The real selling point of this mill for me is that the facilities exclusively produce product for horses—there is no risk of cross-contamination from livestock medications like the monensin often seen in cattle product.
Forward Farm will begin receiving delivery in June of 2024 directly from the Louisville mill. The initial delivery will consist of Carbolyte (a low-starch, low-sugar vehicle for metabolic horses to receive optimal nutrition with minimal caloric intake), Animate (a fatty, fibrous feed for horses who need a bit of extra help keeping up their weight), and Mare Cube (a flavorful & high-protein cube designed for broodmares and immature horses).
