On this day 16 years ago in 2008... Zenyatta, the Queen of Racing, won the G2 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar Racing which set the track record until 2014, going 1 1/16 miles on the all weather track in 1:41.48! She went on to win the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes 2 more times in her career.

2010 Horse of the Year and Hall of Famer Zenyatta, who took the meaning of "horse of a lifetime" to a new level, won 19 of 20 starts with career earnings of $7,304,580. Her only loss was finishing 2nd in the final race of her life in the 2010 G1 Breeders' Cup World Championships Classic to Blame, by a nose. Despite her one loss, she will always be remembered as one of the greatest horses of all time.

Zenyatta was trained by John Sheriffs and ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith in all 20 starts.

On July 28, 2007 in front of a crowd of 29,216 at Saratoga, Lawyer Ron for trainer Todd Pletcher with John Velazquez in the irons won the G1 Whitney Stakes and set a track record going a 1 1/8 miles on the dirt in 1:46.64!

2007 Eclipse Award Champion Lawyer Ron had a career 26 starts with 12 wins, 4 seconds and 4 thirds earning $2,790,008. Notably winning 6 graded stakes races in his life, and 3 graded stakes victories in a row before his bid in the 2006 G1 Kentucky Derby.

Lawyer Ron was retired to stud duties in 2008 at Stonewall Farm in Kentucky, who bought him as a three-year-old before the Kentucky Derby from breeder James Hines Jr. Unfortunately, Lawyer Ron was euthanized in July of 2009 due to complications from a colic surgery.
