Bill Fries, the ad exec who become C. W McCall, was born on November 15, 1928 in Audubon Iowa! Del's mother was born on July 5, 1928 in the same small Iowa town - you KNOW they knew each other. He set the world on fire in the early 1970s with the "Old Home Bread" commercials - and that evolved into songs like "Old Home Fill'er Up" and "Convoy"! If you are from Western Iowa you know where he's talking about!!

The Samuel J. Churchill Camp #4 of the Sons of Union Veterans is dedicating the grave of Doc McWilliams, Company G, 1st Kansas Colored Infantry, on September 30 - Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence, Kansas. The memorial procession begins at 12:45; the official ceremony at 1 p.m. Bring your own seating. The Camp recently learned that Mr. McWilliams did not have a headstone - they got one from the Dept of Defense and set it back in May. This is the official dedication for Mr. McWilliams. The 1st Kansas Colored Infantry is considered the first African American combat unit of the Civil War.

Our Living History Interpreters will show you how to prepare for a mid-1800s picnic and demonstrate how Missouri families prepared and packed their meals.
