We are excited to announce that for a limited time we will be offering a new select single origin as our every day drip coffee! This is a blend from smallholders in the region of Cajamarca, in the North of Peru, which was sourced and prepared by a young producer association called Lima Coffee Peru (Limcof), founded in 2016 by 300 farmers.
It represents the productive potential of zones such as San Ignacio, Jaen and San José de Lourdes, which are in the coffee-producing fringes of Cajamarca.
Limcof has over 800 members growing coffee above 1,000 masl. The association’s president is Rony Lavan Guerrero. The association has been exporting since its first year and focuses on improving quality through constant training and access to financing for harvesting and processing equipment.

We are tasting notes of plum, honey, red grapes and hazelnut in the Cajamarca. You can find this as our new drip coffee, as well as on our merch shelves!

NEW COFFEE!

Mr. Bekele Belacho is known in his micro-region of Segera (part of Sidamo’s larger Bensa region) as one of the strongest coffee farmers around. Bekele, 48 years old, is the second generation of his family to farm on this high-altitude land, where he now spends most of his time with his wife and six children. They do it well, achieving low amounts of discard beans at the dry mill, nearly 90% screen size of 14 and up, and producing a consistent grade 1 quality. Throughout his years farming, he always dreamt of exporting his own coffee and in 2019 he was able to export his first lot. Bekele currently receives technical assistance on harvesting and drying from Crop to Cup’s (our importing partner for this coffee) local staff in Ethiopia and produces a modest volume of 100 bags (G1 quality) per year.

In this batch we are tasting floral and citrus notes, with hints of chamomile tea. This is one you will not want to miss!

Our spring seasonal single origin coffee is here!

Named after Ethiopia’s national tree, the Acacia comes from smallholder farmers in the Guji region of Ethiopia. In these southern regions farmers pick coffee selectively, harvesting only ripe cherries individually by hand. Pickers rotate among the trees every eight to ten days, choosing only the cherries which are at peak ripeness. Coffee is depulped and washed by hand in cement canals at community washing stations. After fermenting in water to loosen the mucilage, wooden paddles are used to fully wash the coffee. Coffee is then placed on raised beds to dry in the sun. This year in the Acacia we are tasting note of bright citrus balanced by caramel sweetness and light floral notes. Catch this coffee on our pour over menu, in our online store (link in bio), our select Hy-Vee locations and with participating wholesale partners!

Today we introduced our new single origin drip originating from Guatemala, Ceiba.

The Ceiba is named for the national tree of Guatemala, the Ceiba tree. In early Mayan and Mesoamerican cultures, the Ceiba symbolized the connection between land and sky. The Ceiba lot from Huehuetenango is a community coffee, investing in sustainable sourcing to benefit a large group of producers. The cup profile boasts a rich floral and berry aroma and is full of chocolate, lemon, and raspberry, with a creamy body thanks to the specific Huehuetenango terroir.

NEW: Basha Bekele

Basha’s Bombe washing station is located in the Bensa woreda in Sidama, Ethiopia. Basha’s father—a community man who with Basha built a church for the community at their site in Bombe—was once a manager for a co-op in Bombe that supplied coffee to the Sidama Union. Basha now has his own export license and grows coffee in semi-forested plots on 12 hectares in addition to operating various collection sites. Like most smallholders around Bensa, Basha exclusively produces dry processes—which includes experiments with anaerobic styles of fermentation—and practices cherry flotation before drying his coffee slowly on raised beds (with some preparations drying under shade).

This coffee perfectly embodies the amazing flavors of this growing region. Bright citrus, fresh berries, delicate florals, and balancing sweetness all come bursting from the cup with every sip. We are very proud to be able to offer Mr. Basha’s import on our shelves as well as our pour over menu. This is not a coffee you will want to miss.

NEW COFFEE

GEMEDECH FULASA:
Mrs. Fulasa was born not too far from where she currently lives, and she is the only child to her parents. In the Gedeo culture, land inheritance usually goes to the male children. However, her being the only child, she took the opportunity to inherit the land when her father passed in 2011 and shine not only as one of few female coffee farmers in the region but one of the highest quality coffee farmers in Yirgacheffe. In the purchasing model used for this coffee, the farmer receives 88% of the FOB price, resulting in substantially increased income compared to the standard model or to growing other crops. Mrs Gemedech’s land in the famed Idedo region of Yirghacheffe is a garden farm where coffee is grown under shade and mixed with other fruits and food staples in a regenerative manner.

SANTA MATILDE:
Santa Matilde is currently owned by the fifth generation of coffee producers of the Ariz-Herrera family, making it one of the first farms in the Concepción de Ataco region to grow specialty coffee beginning in the 1875. The family has been bringing sustainability, social responsibility, and employment to the communities around the farm for over 100 years. Santa Matilde has won much recognition for the quality of their coffees, including top placement in the El Salvador Cup of Excellence in 2018 and 2019.

N E W D R I P : LOS DOS SOCIOS

Don Concepcón Villatoro Matias purchased his farm in 1990, and since then it's been used for planting and harvesting coffee. Over time, Concepcion bought other small parcels, planting them with Bourbon and Caturra plants beneath the Gravilea and Chalum shade trees.
The name 'Los Dos Socios', or the two associates, refers to his relationship with God as the associate supporting his farm.
Don Concepcón Villatoro, along with his wife and two children, have all put in hard work to grow quality coffee cherries. Furthermore, every year they manage to obtain the cup profile that fills their heart with gratitude; and most importantly a cup profile that brings out a smile the moment you take a sip.
Come in and try this new single origin from Guatemala!

JUANAMBU: This lot is named after the Juanambu River in the region of Nariño, South-West Colombia. Juamanbu represents the hard work of many dedicated coffee producers in the area surrounding the Juanambu washing station. Our sourcing partner for this coffee The Coffee Quest, works with producers in the area and buying across all quality ranges in a harvest and paying fair prices. This particular lot is a gem among its peers, and a great all around coffee that will appeal to a wide range of coffee drinkers.

LAS PERLITAS: Throughout the harvest, it's quite common that small-holders in Colombia produce lots that aren't large enough to be exported on their own. However, the quality is often just as good (or better) than samples received from larger lots. As such, our importing partner for this coffee buys all coffees, regardless of size and creates a larger, export-size lot based on region, cup score and profile. The result is Las Perlitas Nariño; a celebrated coffee of various small lots from producers in Nariño. This is a coffee you won’t want to miss. It is smooth and approachable with the perfect balance of acidity.
