Our journey began 70 years ago on the 2nd floor of the Tip Top Café Building in Lihue. Today, as we look back, we’re filled with deep gratitude for our humble beginnings and strong local roots. Reflecting on the growth of Gather FCU, we are reminded of the trust and support from our community that has brought us this far. Mahalo to our members for being a part of our story. 🌺❤️

Summer is one of the best times of the year, especially on Kauaʻi. As the sun sets later, we cherish the extra moments to gather with the ones we love. Beach days become treasured memories, filled with laughter, warmth, and the beauty of our island. 🏖️🌅

Meet Marlene Matutino, a Waimea High School alumni and Gather FCU member since the 1970s.

Back when Gather FCU was known as Kauai Community Federal Credit, Marlene was hired as a student part-time worker, and to help open a branch at Waimea High School. Her father, a plantation worker, then gave money to open accounts for Marlene and her brothers. This was Marlene’s first savings account. At school, if any students wanted to open an account or make a deposit, Marlene was the one who would help them during their lunch break.

Marlene also worked at the Lihue office on Hardy Street in the summer of 1976. She liked working with the “good people” at the credit union, and their wonderful clientele. Her experience working for the credit union truly was a stepping stone to her later careers. As we continue to celebrate Gather’s 70th Anniversary, we recognize the importance of long-term members like Marlene.
