Thank you again to everyone who participated in Culture Night last Friday!
❤️ Here’s one of our favorite stories we heard that night… Tien, a Cavett mother got to carry on this tradition with her daughter after having a booth set up with her own mother when she was a child. All three generations were in attendance on Friday.
We LOVE seeing traditions like this carried on through the generations.
Thank you Tien and your family for joining us!Cavett Elementary School
Make the kids' final PLC tomorrow a fun one and stop by McDonalds for one of our most popular dine out events!
Thank you so much to all of the families, performers, donations & volunteers who made the Culture Night & Art show such a success!

We were very happy to see all of the interest and encouragement to do this event again in the future. Here are some photos we took, please feel free to share your photos in the comment section.

Culture Week Day 5!
We are very excited to announce that the Asian Community and Cultural Center will be performing a Lion Dance! The lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion’s movement in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune.
This is traditionally done during the Chinese New Year and other festivals. If you haven’t experienced this in person yet, you are in for a treat!
Home : Asian Community and Cultural Center We have a variety of classes taking place at our center throughout the year - including English and Citizenship classes, parenting classes, financial education, Know Your Rights, sewing classes for women, and more!
Day 4 of Culture Week!
Today we will focus on World of Music Drumming. This is a group comprised of many different styles of drums and percussion instruments. This group is lead by LHS Band Director and Golden Apple award winner Jill Oetken.
LHS Music Department chair Brett Noser said “Jill went in and learned about different styles of African drumming, and the drums are actually from Africa. And the way that it’s taught is completely from rote. There are no notes on a page because a vast majority of the world doesn’t learn by notation.”

Day 3 of Culture Week!
Today we’re highlighting the Mariachi band:
Los Mariachis de la Ciudad Estrella started in 2018 and is an LPS All-City Ensemble under the direction of Brett Noser and Leila Zila. Los Mariachis is open to 7th-12th grade students at any school in Lincoln (not just LPS). Los Mariachis performs at various events throughout the year and plays a variety of traditional and contemporary mariachi music. We have performed at the Nebraska State Fair, the Nebraska Music Educators Association Banquet, Dia De Los Mu***os, and many other events.
We are excited to perform at Cavett Elementary School!

Day 2 of Culture Week!
PANgea is the only group of its kind in Nebraska. The group was formed as a means to give percussionists throughout LPS more opportunities than they would find in a traditional concert band setting.
PANgea is an entity of Lincoln Public Schools. Consisting of members grades 6-12, it is an auditioned group that rehearses once a week on Saturday mornings and performs 10-12 times each spring at various events. Serving as an ambassador for LPS, PANgea aims to reach many different organizations throughout the Lincoln community while providing educational performing opportunities to our students.
Nearly all LPS middle and high schools are represented in our membership.
Come see this amazing group perform during Culture Night!

This month is our last ever PLC, since they are moving away from them starting next school year. This is your final opportunity to provide snacks for teachers during these meetings, so let's make sure they feel extra spoiled and appreciated!
We would love for you to help by bringing a variety of snacks! This month we are having a breakfast theme, including pastries, a yogurt bar, fruit, and more. Please send the items with your kids to school or drop off in the office before noon that day.
