The holidays, especially Black Friday, are coming up, so here's some advice that you didn't ask for...
Before you buy that deal at the big box store for your child, niece or nephew, or *yourself*, STOP.
These "instruments" are built as cheaply as possible to maximize profits. That's all they're for and they're no better than a cheap toy. They play terrible, don't set up correctly, and literally fall apart. If it's uncomfortable to play, Little Johnny isn't going to want to play, period.
Remember, the old adage “you get what you pay for” Is never more true than with string instruments.

Congratulations to Addison Duensing, the 2023 recipient of The Violin Shop in Lincoln’s VELA Scholarship offered through the String Alliance in Lincoln Music Camp. Best wishes to Addison on her start at Nebraska Wesleyan University.

It is with great sadness that we share the death of Henry Hultquist. Henry, who founded of The Violin Shop in Lincoln in 1982, passed peacefully in his home today surrounded by family and love ones. We will always be grateful and humbled to carry on his love for the string community in Lincoln.

Here we have a “Walmart” violin fresh from Black Friday! It “features” a hollow plastic neck, fingerboard and pegs. This along with the “beautiful” Lauan Plywood body, it’s sure to discourage even the most promising student! We are offering a bounty for these in the form of a discounted rental. If we work together, we can rid the street of these little buggers and make the world a more musical place! (Including a throwback to the last time we saw one of these, the neck just could not hold the tension)

Your annual holiday reminder: please don't buy musical instrument shaped objects from the same place you buy your groceries or toiletries. Call and ask your local instrument repair shop whether they can service an instrument before you buy it, even if it's new in box

The Violin Shop will be Closed Nov. 24th, 25th, & 26th for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Normal hours will resume Tuesday Nov. 29th. Have a blessed celebration!
