Lititz Area Mennonite Archers Excel In State 3D Competition

Lititz Area Mennonite School (LAMS) exists to steward the “whole child” through providing Christ-centered education and personalized learning opportunities for students in Pre-K through twelfth grade. LAMS offers a variety of athletics and extracurriculars to help students blossom into who God created them to be. Archery being one of them. LAMS has participated in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) for seven years.

Two years ago, Kaylee Zimmerman (shown on the left), a current middle school student at LAMS, received the first award for the LAMS archery team at the 2022 PA State Tournament competition. She placed fourth in the Girls Elementary Division for Bullseye. She then went on to compete in the National Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. Kaylee once again received an award at the 2023 PA State Tournament when she took fifth place in the Girls Middle School Division for Bullseye. Kaylee again competed in the National Tournament in Kentucky along with teammate Andre Zook who qualified for the National 3D Tournament.

Kaylee Zimmerman (7th grade) had another successful season in 2024. In her first State 3D Tournament, Kaylee took first place with a score of 281/300, to become the Girls Middle School 3D State Champion. Kaylee placed eighth out of 201 Middle School girls in the Bullseye competition, which also qualified her for the National competition. She represented LAMS in both events in the Eastern National Archery tournament in Louisville, Kentucky on Thursday, May 9 to Saturday, May 11. Kaylee shot a 281/300 in the National 3D Tournament ranking her 32 out of 1,187 MS girls. She went on to shoot a 289/300 in the National Bullseye Tournament ranking her 15 out of 2,635 MS girls. After the tournament, Kaylee was nominated to the 2024 NASP Academic All American Team.

Success for LAMS archery continued at this year’s PA State 3D tournament when Gavin Shenk (10th grade, shown on the right) won an award for his fourth place finish in the Boys High School Division. Gavin shot a 279/300. This is Gavin’s first season with the LAMS archery team, which led to him representing LAMS in the 2024 Eastern National Archery tournament. During the tournament, Gavin shot a 271/300 in the National 3D Tournament placing him 367 out of 1,225 HS Boys.

When asked what their favorite part about competing with LAMS archery, Kaylee expressed she enjoys having, “… to concentrate on each shot and each shot can be different.” Gavin shared, “Seeing how the scores have improved and I have grown…”, is his favorite part about participating in competitive archery at Lititz Area Mennonite School.

Favorite part of working at LAMS?
I love the community at LAMS. There is a genuine feeling of belonging and care for one another amongst the staff, students and patrons. I am so blessed to be able to both work here and send my kids to an environment like this!

What is God teaching you right now?
God has created us each with a unique essence that reflects His image in some way. When you embrace who God has created you to be, you reflect His image in a way that only you can. I hope to help my students feel God's love for them in who He has uniquely created them to be!

Fun Fact?
I love music! I lead worship at my church and can be found singing nearly everywhere I go!
